Hi guys, would like to get some tips and suggestions on my second trip to Japan. The first trip was in 2016 during the month of September which cover mainly Tokyo for about 7 days. For this second trip would start from Kansai>Chubu>Kanto. The following is the itinerary I've planned, as it is a free & easy kind of trip will go for some scenery, shopping & food.

The month of March 2023
18th - Landed Osaka
19th - Nara>Osaka
20th - Kyoto
21st - Kyoto
22nd - Nagoya>Kawaguchi
23rd - Hakone>Tokyo
24th - Tokyo
25th - Tokyo Disney
26th - Tokyo
27th - Tokyo>Malaysia

Based on the above itinerary, any feedback on whether the days spent is doable and whole trip will get the chance to experience the Cherry Blossom? After confirming these then I will update again on which spot to visit.

Thank you notworthy.gif

April chances are higher for Cherry Blossom.
Why spend a night at Nagoya? It doesn't make any sense. 22 can change to Kyoto > Kawaguchi
*
Oh ok, so best to go around the end of March till Early April? Saw website all written March on the cherry blossom that why set the trip on March.

Not staying at Nagoya, will spend half day at Nagoya then travel to Kawaguchi and stay at Kawaguchi.

I would like to ask which is nicer to visit between Kawaguchiko and Yamanouchi during end of March to early April. Is 2-day 1 night sufficient for this location?

1st time to Japan?  then Kawaguchiko because nearer to Mt Fuji.
*
Ok, I might plan to go both places each will be staying a night or two.

Mind to share the easier route say from Kyoto to these two places.

Should I travel to Kawaguchiko from Kyoto first leg then from Kawaguchiko to Yamanouchi or the other way around?

From Kyoto going these 2 places are suxk. More easy & direct from Tokyo.
From Kyoto need do few transfer at Station and take half a day to reach either destination.

Yamanouchi:
From Kyoto take Shinkansen to Nagoya Station. From Nagoya Station take JR Limited Express "Shinano" to Nagano Station.
Entire Journey took 4 - 5 Hrs

Kawaguchiko:
Kyoto Take Night Express Bus - Fujikyuko Express Bus.

11:30 Pm at Kyoto Station Bus Stop F3
Bus Stop Location: 34.984161, 135.759252

Hi Guy,

Want to ask about JR green car pass, if forgotten to reserve a seats can just hop onto the unreserved seat carriage?

To whom just visited Japan, do their custom still stamp passport or due to covid time they change to automated gate? Cause most website stated to obtain the JR pass one of the requirements is to show the stamp on passport.

You cannot Board JR Limited Express or Shinkansen directly just with JR Rail Pass !!!  Any Time you want to take Limited Express or Shinkansen must go JR Ticket Office first. Show the JR Rail Pass to Staff & tell staff which train & which seat (Reserved or Unreserved) you want.  It will Print out The Seat Ticket (Reserved or Unreserved also got Ticket with that Particular Train no.)
So before you pass that Manual Gate, you need to show 2 Ticket (JR Rail Pass + Seat Ticket).
Without 2 ticket, you can't even pass Manual gate of Shinkansen, staff will ask you go get seat ticket.

Local / Rapid train such as JR Yamanote Line / Chuo Line etc etc.....This kind of train, you can direct pass manual gate by showing JR Rail Pass. This part really interesting, Because Limited Express sharing same platfrom as Local train.
Staff will let you pass because he think you just wanted to take Local train.  If you board Limited Express without Seat Ticket, Ticket Conductor will FXXX you HARD & Give you long long lectured  biggrin.gif
I see this incident many many many times  biggrin.gif

About the Stamp on JR Rail Pass only stamp once per day. After 24 hours, next passing manual gate, staff only stamp 2nd chop.

Haha, thanks for the detailed explanation. At least now I know how the pass should work.

But what happens if the JR Ticket Office closes past the office hour? Can you reserve a seat at those normal ticketing machines?

And the stamp I'm referring to is the immigration stamp for tourist "temporary visitor". Without these one can't exchange the get JR rail pass right?

is there any difference buying the JR pass from Klook or any other vendor vs from JTB?

Some threads from Tripadvisor said buying direct from JTB allows online pre-booking of seats prior to visiting Japan whereas vendor you can only book seats in person while in Japan

Wish to know this as well, based on any of JR website regard to the JR pass that will then link to Japan Rail Pass which I assume is their official Japan agent in selling the pass.

From the website it wrote "If you purchased a JAPAN RAIL Pass online, you can book a reserved seat on the dedicated website (JAPANRAIL PASS Reservation)." But the price is higher than the usual one compared to those travel agents JPY 29,650 compared to JPY 33,610.

Normally how long will it last for the bloom right after peak?

a week or 2, nowadays they plant different sakura trees together (earlyand late bloom species) to make the experience last longer

It's been a very warm winter this season. Some trees were already flowering when I left Tokyo last week. You highly unlikely to see the first blossom in April for tokyo.
*
The warm winter you've mentioned is something like Genting's coldness??

QUOTE(deodorant @ Mar 17 2023, 12:41 PM)
Kansai full bloom forecast is 27-28 March so no problem.
Tokyo full bloom forecast is like 4 days from now so by the time you go it will be way past peak liao.
*
Haha, I don't mind even after the peak if there are still some blossoms on trees rather than all fallen off during my visit.

One thing I could do is go to view it at nighttime once landed in Tokyo on 25th.

Between Ninomaru Garden & Chidorigafuchi Park, which might be the ideal one to visit during nighttime?
