worthwhile depending on what you want to see... himeji has nothing that is worth 1 day (sorry himeji but that's the truth) most famous is castle, unless you also want to see their garden (but if you want to talk about garden, might as weell go Okayama....)
you could do a stop at himeji then go kobe (its a short train ride)

And speaking of Okayama, that whole area got a lot of stuff to see, Kurashiki for one, if you have not been, Kojima, Washuzan/Seto Ohashi, Bitchu-Matsuyama, Kibiji with their scenic bike trail, and the famous kibiji shrine and other stuff. The whole Seto Inland area are lovely and worth spending few days.

As i mentioned to another person few posts ago, since you're going in winter time, you can check out tottori (its snow crab and matsuba crab season). If you plan to drive, after hiroshima, you can go to yamaguchi for a day trip (yamaguchi got a few zekkei spots, the most famous being Motonosumi shrine, but is a super pain to get to with public transport. best is to rent a car)

edit: tbh its also not difficult to just withdraw money at the atm there, the rates aren't that bad.
