QUOTE(silver311 @ Mar 26 2023, 06:59 PM) Hi, We're planning to go to Tokyo and Kyoto this coming May. Travel around Tokyo, then head to Kyoto, then back to Tokyo. Can we take the 7 day JR Pass and use it throughout our trip? A 7 day JR pass cost about a return trip from Tokyo to Osaka… plus JR usage is pretty limited in cities, depending on where you are visiting… you can do quite an accurate estimation whether a JR pass is worth it for you by just using Google maps

Any bro or sis here knows if there’s any food around 530am around Toyama station? I just found Yoshinoya near the station
Jeez that blardy Alpine website crashed like mad once it opened just now, finally managed to get the tickets but the time is really early, hotel breakfast also not open yet

QUOTE(RegentCid @ Mar 31 2023, 07:23 AM) Yoshinoya , Lawson & Family Mart are 24 hrs nearby Toyama Station. McD inside Toyama Station open at 6.30am JST Thanks bro People posted on Google maps that Lawson next to Dentetsu Toyama has closed down late last year All good, the hotel recommended convenience stores around, should be able to get something, else need to tapao roti the night before This post has been edited by kenji1903: Mar 31 2023, 11:14 AM

QUOTE(Blofeld @ Apr 2 2023, 01:22 AM) i woke up at 5.30am at Daiwa Roynet Hotel at Toyama a few years back At 5.30am, I walked around looking for Oden in both Lawson (Lawson was still operating back then), Family Mart, and 7-11 just below the hotel. They (all of them) don't have Odens that early. But they have sandwiches. And of coz plenty of cup noodles. But anyway, you can buy the cup noodles a few days earlier also. Ah, cup noodle is another idea also, thanks bro! I’ll see if I can get some bread/buns the night before, else can just tapao from Yoshinoya

In Tokyo, Is it worth getting groceries from supermarkets like Gyomu Super? Things like mineral water, snacks, Milk, etc?
Or not much difference getting them from 7-11, Family Mart or Lawson?

QUOTE(RegentCid @ Apr 4 2023, 08:15 AM) Convenient store price will be always higher because of 24 hrs. 15-20% different. 500ml Sapporo beer Supermarket 400 yen Convenient store 550 yen Restaurant 660 yen Thanks bro, might just stick to convenience store because these Gyomu supermarkets are a bit far, unless I plan to sapu stick, else 3 subway return tickets might cost more than the 20% By the way bro, do you know if the Tokyo Skytree advance ticket, there’s a booking time there, what happens if we reach before or after the time? I read it’s more on coordinating the crowds going up the lift, but not much info on their website

QUOTE(deodorant @ Apr 7 2023, 08:58 PM) Depends on your flight arrival timing whether it’s a popular or deserted one also. Last last Sunday night I flew into KIX around 9pm, within 30mins of aircraft reaching gate I’m already queueing for airport limo bus. But other ppl arriving at 3pm around there took 3 hours to clear everything Anyway tomorrow is the end of my 1st trip to Japan with a small kid (3 years old) and it’s freaking ridiculous just how different it is from all my previous times where only me and wife. There were some days that I literally only have 2-3 hours of sightseeing time a day, more than 50% of my planning thrown out the window cos even the timing of when you can leave the hotel cannot control accurately one. Reminds me of my first trip with a 1.5yo to Australia… everything koyak and almost every day tapao and eat in hotel, the only night go out for dinner, the kid went back to the hotel and went amok want to go out again, at 10pm?!?! QUOTE(EpsilonStar @ Apr 8 2023, 07:08 PM) hey guys like to ask, i am going tokyo then osaka. Plan to visit mount fuji and kyoto also if time allows. Should i get the JR pass? Is JR pass useful for trains within tokyo and osaka? This has been discussed a couple of times in the last few pages. The JR 7 day pass is only worth it if you are doing more than a Tokyo-Osaka return

QUOTE(Sycamore @ Apr 8 2023, 10:20 PM) Got back from Japan earlier this week, sharing a few info: 1. Tokyo is more than 80% using credit/prepaid card. Not sure where I read people saying Japan prefer cash. Not with Tokyo. 2. I tested among Wise, TnGo and Bigpay visa prepaid card, Wise gives best exchange rate. I tried so you no need to try. For more info please refer: https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...#entry1070098803. Cash (changed from mid valley money changer) still gives best rate. Though if you do not spend much the discrepancy might not be significant. Might as well just use Wise to make life easier. Thanks Taikor, good info! Which ATM brand you tried with Wise? All the Seven bank and Family mart e-net ATM can use?

QUOTE(tzxsean @ Apr 12 2023, 08:43 PM) I had time to draft my itinerary for first time travel in Tokyo. I need some advices / suggestions on the schedule / location synergy if I should move things around for efficiency purposes. Other than that, I would love to hear some of the food recommendations around the area I'm visiting! Thank you. Don’t put anything into the day of your arrival… today I touched down at Haneda, with fast track and all but nothing is fast because it took us more than 2 hours just to be pass the immigration… then go take SIM card, tekan money from ATM and buy Suica/Pasmo card… almost 4 hours just to get into the city after arrival… And oh… just to update on Wise card ATM withdrawal, it works on Seven bank and JPbank ATM machines with a ¥220 local bank fee charges. Going to try out Family Mart and other brands This post has been edited by kenji1903: Apr 13 2023, 10:16 PM

QUOTE(tzxsean @ Apr 13 2023, 10:35 PM) wow ... might take out ueno park and move to other day or skip it what was your arrival time though? I need to head to Shinjuku (most likely) to store my luggage before check in time ... Btw, I also just applied Wise Card ..please keep us posted on the ATM withdrawal Mine was the 645 arrival, reached 10 mins earlier but there was already a very long queue, the entire hall was full about 30 mins later. Surprisingly a lot of Thais… When we reached our hotel in Ginza it was already noon. After noon you might be able to start if not too tired…

FYI Wise card update, most of the dept/convenience stores like Odakyu, Solamachi, etc accepts cards. I didn’t do any withdrawal yet after the airport since only use cash for Suica topup and some shops
It’s only those roadside/under tunnel shops with 5-6 seats accept only cash so far, or Tsukiji market (“water fish” market)… this is for Tokyo, will update again when I reach the smaller cities
