Philippine Airlines newest fleet A321 Neo & A350 very good. Very hardly can see any airlines installed IFE system on A320/A321 & Philippines Airlines A321 Neo got IFE system with 14 inch screen.  biggrin.gif

sadly, i don't really care about IFE on flights, i usually prefer to read or sleep. my main thing is to sit comfy, next, decent enough food quality. For a woman, I guessed I'm considered tall-ish? i'm 1.68 i like leg room and back support.

First and last carriages are stroller friendly and have dedicated stroller space. Other than that, you prolly have to fold up? I'm a single woman, really am not the best person to ask about this. (I'm trying to think hard about my time on the trains if i seen a stroller or not lmao) Maybe try googling OTL

If you're always together with family, maybe mifi? I'm usually a solo traveler and also gotten lazy buying japanese sim...I think i only bought jp sims twice. After that, each time i just buy roaming addon.
I'm on Digi, 14 days jp roaming just cost me 75 rm. not unlimited internet but was enough for what i need (basically google maps, navitime, tabelog). Besides, it comes with call minutes which those jp travel sim doesn't offer. Every telco also has something similar i reckon? I think maxis offers only 1 type of roaming for japan and it's around 99 myr and last 30 days. (digi 30 days jp roaming is 95-30gb internet but weirdly only 30 mins call time)

I saw two flights via PAL that has a reasonable transit time and departure time
KL (00:45) -> NRT (12:10) , transit MNL for approx 3 hours
HND (01:15) -> KUL (11:00), transit MNL for approx 3 hours as well

take the haneda one if not much price difference and save on airport transit biggrin.gif

Quick question which I hope @cannellini or @RegentCid would be able to provide some recommendations...

I'm aware that New Year (shogatsu) in Japan is a big thing with many places closed, but do you have any recommendations on where to visit during that period (approx between Dec 30th - Jan 3rd)? Already spent several shogatsu in Kyushu and last year in TDR, so out of ideas now... Besides USJ, what other places would you recommend with not so many closed shops and some activities to do during that period?

Not much i can addon to what regentcid had replied. Its going to be suuuper boring cause almost everything are closed. You can temple hop if you want.

Thank you for your explanation. Appreciate it alot!!! Will allocate 3 days at Okayama and 1 day at Hiroshima. After looking at Klook, looks like there are way more activities in Hiroshima than Okayama even though Okayama seems like a better centre for transportation.

Have a question regarding the JR pass. I am going to purchase this Takayama-Hokuriku Area Tourist Pass. I will be travelling to Nara but this pass doesnt cover all the stations to Nara. Does it mean i have to get off the station and repurchase ticket to continue my journey?

Thanks

Okayama, like I mentioned in my previous comment to you, is a hub to many nearby areas. Okayama itself is not that touristy. Hiroshima, after all, is a bigger city compared to Okayama. If you would like to explore Hiroshima proper and also do Miyajima, 1 day is not enough. You should consider at least overnight or more. What do you planned to do for 3 days in Okayama? Are you planning to go to several of those areas i mentioned about? If so, then it is worth to spend that many days in Okayama. If you manage your time properly, you could do Kojima/Kurashiki in 1 day (but do understand you got to really manage time properly because in those areas, buses and trains does not come every 5 minutes, think more like every 1 hr lol)

RE: the Takayama Hokuriku Area pass, you could just ride all the way to Nara and pay the extra/readjusted fare at the exit station. You could also pre-buy the fare from your entry JR station. Example; you board at station A but your pass only covers until station C and you want to go all the way to station F. You could buy the ticket for station C to F at station A and just show the ticket with your pass at the exit station.

edit:
btw, i want to recommend this shop if you're in Hiroshima (if you're non muslim) for some authentic hiroshima style okonomiyaki

https://goo.gl/maps/rohaa7BfwxEypmGs6 (you can hop in here for lunch if you're doing the hiroshima peace memorial park/museum thing)

I just checked, and there are reviews as recent as a month ago, so thank god, the grandma is still alive. Do note she speaks Japanese only. The okonomiyaki is delicious, cheap and you get to enjoy a local atmosphere instead of some touristy joint.

@rx330 i guess others already replied. If you buy from KLOOk, you can only redeem it at Kyoto station. It is pricier but you are buying a guaranteed ride on a guaranteed day. You want an assured ride, book in advance. The route Cid suggest is 👌

The bamboo forest is U-shaped and whole thing is abt less than few hundred metres. Enter one end come out the other. If not packed, you get through it fast, if packed, ppl walk suuuuuuper slow, you also slow. Nearby got a big shrine, some small hut of a famous poet (i cannot remember name) but you gotta walk some distance if you want to explore the area. Or you can go to kinkakuji by bus

I seen the schedule, almost every hour got train ride, so still better to buy online to secure seating or wait for next available train?

its boat, where to buy tix ar? also need to pre buy ar

I think I should be taking bus from Nijo to Arashiyama

ur this route
From Kyoto Station > Karasuma Oike Station via Karasuma Subway Line.
Karasuma Oike Station > Uzumasa Tenjingawa Station via Tozai Subway Line.
Uzumasa Tenjingawa Station > Randen-Saga Station via Randen Arashiyama Line (Very classic tram)
Randen-Saga Station walk to Saga-Arashiyama Station
most likely I will get lost hahahah ended up in other state hahahahah

marfccy
just a brisk walk, show my kid ard, take some pics
the surroundings are the forest or the streets?

Doesnt matter if the ride is hourly. Its a small train. It cant carry much per ride. If you dont buy DAYS in advance, chances are you won't be able to get in on the day and the time you want. (Or even next train) Last time they used to allow you to stand in the train (which is really lame, you definitely want to sit) but now i think no more.

The boat ticket are sold on the spot at the pier

hello, where can i get bus pass in kyoto? i searched klook kkday, dont see kyoto bus pass.
Do i still need bus pass if i planned to purchase Keihan Kyoto-Osaka Sightseeing 2days pass?

another question, for travel from osaka to kyoto, recommend using Keihan line or Hankyu line? Does this 2 lines allow big luggage(2x 28 inch)?  Im staying nearby Kitahama station in Osaka if that relevant.

Thanks in advanced

The one day bus pass can be purchased at the bus terminal (got vending machine), at the city bus office building (its a building (more like a kiosk) outside of the main kyoto station (not very far just right outside one of the exit near to the terminal)

You can also buy them at the commuter pass office at the various subway stations.

Regarding the keihan kyoto-osaka sightseeing pass, you cannot use it to ride the keihan buses.

Regarding the luggage on normal trains. Well, you can.......... But you are gonna be a whole pain in the ass during peak hours. Try to use first or last carriage so you arent blocking ppl that much.

Keihan normal train to kyoto takes abt 1 hr.
Hankyu is less
JR rapid is fastest normal train to kyoto

peak hours will be like morning 8-10?? Keihan line + premium car will this be better if i really need to travel during peak hour?
or any other train suggestion?

If you are thick-skinned, just bring your luggage and squeezed in. Many ppl does that tbh you won't be the first or the last. If you want convenience a one way bullet train from shin osaka to kyoto is around 3000 ish yen for a reserved seat (pls double check the price)

with 28 inch luggage in tow you will need to reserve a seat (cant use free seating) so go to the ticketing window (midori no madoguchi) to purchase a ticket (remember to inform you have large luggage)

The bullet train to kyoto from osaka is 15 mins ride.

There's a bus from USJ to kyoto too but its a 2 hrs ride lol
