Usually, are the buses plying the Kanazawa-Shirakawa-go-Takayama route punctual or will it get long delayed to due traffic jam?

Facing some stumbling block here. Below is current plan. Using Takayama-Hokuriku Area Tourist Pass for Day 1-5
Day 3, want to spend visit Takayama morning market which ends at 12 pm, earliest can arrive at Takayama Station is 9:28 am using the earliest Hida Limited Exp. Earliest bus arrives as 10:25 am. So considering to go to Takayama on the evening of Day 2 instead, both bus and Hokuriku-Hida leaves Kanazawa around 4 pm. Would have prefered to leave later around 6 pm but seems no option. Already booked accommodation, so need to rebook for Day 1 and 2. Day 1 - Arrive KIX 3:30pm, Haruka + Thunderbird, Kyoto to Kanazawa. Stay Kanazawa. Day 2 - Kanazawa. Stay Kanazawa. Day 3 - Hokuriku + Hida, Kanazawa to Takayama. Stay Takayama. Day 4 - Day trip to Kamikochi. Stay Takayama. Day 5 - Bus to Shirakawa-Go, then Thunderbird, Kanazawa to Kyoto. Stay Kyoto. Day 6 - Kyoto. Stay Kyoto Day 7 - Haruka to KIX Another option is to swap Shirakawa-Go to Day 3 like this: Day 3 - Bus to Shirakawa-Go, then to Takayama. Stay Takayama. Day 5 - Takayama, then bus or train to Kanazawa and Kyoto. Stay Kyoto. Any thoughts on this, maybe a better suggestion? Thank you add: Can I make bus reservation the following trip at Nohi Bus Center in Kanazawa? - Nohi bus for Takayama to Hirayu Onsen/Kamikochi - Nohi Bus for Takayama to Kanazawa This post has been edited by Human Nature: Mar 23 2023, 06:02 PM |

QUOTE(kenji1903 @ Mar 23 2023, 09:29 PM) Any idea if this can be bought online? I checked Nohi bus website, they only state timetable and fees buy no option to purchase, Cant find details about this ticket elsewhere apart from here:Kamikochi opening from 17/4, maybe booking not yet open? https://www.nouhibus.co.jp/route_bus/kamikochi-line-en/ Takayama~Hirayu Onsen~Kamikochi Round trip set ticket The one combined with Shinhotaka ropeway can be purchased from Klook |

QUOTE(Sycamore @ Mar 24 2023, 02:56 PM) I am currently in Japan and will leave on April. Which airport and how fast to clear immigration? Two intel I wanna share with you guys: 1. If you are flying with AirAsia, very likely you can catch up with last monorail/tokyu train. You can plan around that. 2. Do not use Digi and Celcom data roaming. I was thinking I might need my mobile number in Japan for example credit card online transaction, might as well go with digi. The truth is zero service availability. Then I thought luckily I brought along my second number with Celcom. Quickly I bought nearly rm100 purported data roaming pass. The truth is it barely connects. Keep disconnecting. My rm200 burn liao 😂 |

QUOTE(RegentCid @ Mar 24 2023, 10:25 PM) English speaking customer service ...No idea, because I always get ticket one day early at Takayama HQ. Opss April, most of people will choose Alpine route over Kamikochi. But in July - August will be busy because summer hikers going nearby peak hiking. October will be Kamikochi highest peak due to autumn season. Golden red leaf everywhere. Most beautiful scenic season. This post has been edited by Human Nature: Mar 24 2023, 10:36 PM |

QUOTE(wyen @ Apr 17 2023, 03:50 PM) Went to Kyoto, Kanazawa, Shirakawago and Takayama and Nagoya for 10days using hokuriku rail pass. How do you depart from Nagoya? I am on the same itinerary as you, minus Nagoya.Utilised for Kyoto to Kanazawa thunderbird jr line Nohi bus for 1 day trip to shirakawago from kanazawa station. Have to buy earlier even though i bought the day after tomorrow the bus was full. 1 day trip will do nth much there. Spent 5-6hrs. Then to takayama via nohi bus Coincidentally it was matsuri festival no wonder the hotel was limited and very expensive on 14april. Stayed 1 night only at Takayama but enjoyed strolling those souvenirs shop near jinya mae temple and also Funasaka sake for 100yen vending machine. Tried hida beef ajikura Took hida limited express from takayama to nagoya with the pass, very beautiful view throughout the journey. Felt that 2 hours plus with this train was too short. Dinner had eel rice at ESCA It was raining at Nagoya hence indoor shopping at osu kannon which famous for second hand stores. Had their miso katsu forgot the name but theres huge pig statue infront shop near osu street. This post has been edited by Human Nature: Apr 17 2023, 04:27 PM |

QUOTE(RyoKenzaki @ Apr 17 2023, 09:07 PM) Wanna ask how much do people generally spend in a one week Japan trip? Really hard to answer this as it differs from spending habit. For a moderate tourist, I would say 10k is more than sufficient. Is RM10K including flight ticket sufficient? Question on Haruka unreserved ticket:
https://www.westjr.co.jp/global/en/ticket/icoca-haruka/ One way Kyoto Station-KIX is Y1800 as I already hold an icoca card. From hyperdia, the total cost is Y2900 (Y1910 ticket fare + Y990 seat fee). Do I still need to buy/pay the Y990 seat fee? If yes, buy it from ticket machine/JR ticket office? Thank you |

QUOTE(RegentCid @ Apr 28 2023, 06:14 PM) If you board the train with Icoca, you only pay the train ticket, you need to pay extra 990 Yen for reserved seat. Seat can purchase from machine / ticket office. Means if I dont intend to reserve seat, I can just take the ride using the 1800 Yen HARUKA discount ticket?Do not insert Seat ticket into machine when passing gate. Btw, pro tips are go machine see the seat available thru machine first, if the train damm empty........no need waste that 990yen. Thank you |

QUOTE(kenji1903 @ May 6 2023, 10:56 PM) Hi bro, yes it was great! Kamikochi was one of the best highlights in the trip Thank for the trip bro. Sounds like you have lots on fun.You can get the round trip bus ticket from Takayama Nohi bus terminal, it’s a 7 day open ticket, meaning you can do the trip within 7 days but once you start you need to complete the return on the same day You can hop on and off the bus from hirayu onsen to Kamikochi Beautiful walk but make sure you take the longer route to myojin bridge and take the shorter route back, we regretted taking the opposite because the longer route has more to offer When you going bro? It was a bit cold when we went a couple of weeks back Will be going in October, cant wait |

QUOTE(1qaz1qaz @ Jun 2 2023, 07:54 PM) hi anyone got recommendation for internal solution? Yes, more than enough. Sim from Hello1010.My works fine for me in South Korea, so getting from them again for Japan.10 days traveling between Osaka, Kyoto and Tokyo. for 2 pax mainly use for navigation like google maps or check train route or occasionally social media. is 2GB data daily enough? from google found mainly 3 ways, 1) Shopee Japan sim > Cheapest among all. Any good? Anyone bought/use this before, can recommend which seller? 2) Local Japan sim > Way more expansive than Shopee sim around 30-40% extra from the price that i can google. 3) Pocket Wifi > too expensive imo hope anyone can share some insight |
