tbh no. i think you should think thoroughly if it's management position you want and continue to stay in the company.
the company won't be like, oh he changed to citizen, now he should get a promotion. you are still not a true blue singaporean. if money and promotion you are looking for, consider to jump to other companies. |

QUOTE(Chicky1991 @ Mar 23 2020, 11:25 PM) Some of the companies I applied asked if I'm Singaporean. Once I said I'm PR, they said they only look for Singaporean. Do you know if job priority is given to Singaporean citizen rather than PR? Actually not. Of course in ranking would be Singaporean, pr, then rest of pass. But in hiring, shouldn't "discriminate" though Anyways, keep on finding |

QUOTE(Chicky1991 @ Mar 21 2020, 02:21 PM) Hi, I am currently a Singapore PR and working as executive in Singapore for S$4000/month for an MNC for almost 10 years. Most of my colleagues who have converted to Singaporean get promotion faster and one of them who is few years elder than me earning S$8000/month as manager (formerly Malaysian). The concern that I have is that most management position only open/prioritize Singaporean rather than PR/foreigners. Should I give up my Malaysian citizenship and become Singaporean and settle down in Singapore which I think will gives me more opportunity to go for management position? Hi, as far as i know the promotion shouldn't apply based on the nationality, imagine if you are the boss/mgmt, will you promote a singaporean who is less capable to other nationality? It doesn't make sense isn't it?Most of the people convert to Singaporean for cheaper housing, education for kids, and other benefits that PR doesn't have. You need to find out why you are not getting promote and what kind of skills are you lacking to become a manager. As you said you have work for 10 years in a same company, what have you learn so far and ask yourself are you growing or stagnant? Your age also play a huge factor when come to job search. Nowadays people will hesitate to hire ppl who work for 10 years in a same company, they afraid the person cannot adapt to new environment and the limited knowledge due to staying a same company for too long. Who tell you that most management position is just open to Singaporean? Most of the mgmt in my company are Indians, Malaysian, and Caucasians. |
