Will the ping or respond time improve after we ditch ONU and use the GPON SFP ?
Home Networking Ditch ONU, use GPON SFP on Business Grade Router, 2.5G ONU for Unifi & Maxis, NO NEED VLAN

QUOTE(Anime4000 @ Jun 3 2022, 07:44 PM) should be, but very negligible, when using SGMII, 1000baseX or HiSGMII, 2500baseX, it skip Ethernet Stack, Router is directly to PON interface Hard core gamming speed is utmost important even is very negligible. Thanks for the infoif you using 1Gbps, you can have 1.3 or 1.5Gbps or more when using GPON SFP with HiSGMII lwk523 have done that, first in Malaysia having over 1Gbps internet speed at home |

1 machine doing 2 works. To convert and to manage.
Not a good idea. This post has been edited by OlgaC4: Jun 4 2022, 12:06 PM |

QUOTE(Anime4000 @ Jun 4 2022, 12:49 PM) Oh, you didn't understand... oh Thanks for the info. GPON ONU SFP has own SoC CPU, it just like miniature ONU with SFP Interface. ODI DFP-43X-2C2 using Realtek RTL9601D processor T&W TWCGPON657, V2801F using Realtek RTL9601CI processor Huawei, Alcatel and Nokia SFP using PEB/PEF 98035 ET processor ![]() instead connect using Ethernet Cable for both end, ![]() connect using SGMII (1Gbps) or HiSGMII (2.5Gbps) instead ![]() using SFP skip all Ethernet stuff, router just do router thing, GPON ONU SFP just manage fiber like ONU do |

QUOTE(go626201 @ Jun 6 2023, 07:30 PM) TM keep changing the routing causing the connectivity cant maintain on a high and stable quality connection. I concur. So sometime you get stable connection with good routing, but sometime the connection is bad due to routing changed or congestion. And so far TM to Local national network connection is improved,so it is better than past 1-2 years. (Now Almost 97% stable, but still got some time will having crap connection) But TM to worldwide network like SG or others region network still crap, everyday get different connection stability. |

My FPS gamming experience from LTE maxis is far better then fiber unfi.
LTE Maxis 32ping unfi 12ping but most of my headshot on LTE maxis is register not in unfi. Will move to Maxis fiber end of this month. This post has been edited by OlgaC4: Nov 15 2023, 10:19 AM |

Even with local website. Unfi is shit. Try go in lowyat.net the different is heaven and hell when responding compared to maxis.

Better check the heat coming from the GPON. Normal media also so hot already.

QUOTE(Anime4000 @ Jan 24 2024, 12:07 AM) this depend how strong RX. Depends on application many of my customer in range -14dBm to -8dBm of RX produce very hot, the PON Laser absorb the heat also share same heatsink body with SoC the PON Stick can stand up to 90 degreeC, I been using since 2020 and never put any heatsink. some of my client use Raspberry Pi Copper Heatsink like this on PON Stick ![]() Downloading will not feel it but gamming you will feel it big time. |

QUOTE(yenchenje @ Jan 24 2024, 08:55 AM) What’s with you and your “gaming you will feel a difference” sentiment in almost every single post Do worry you will not feel the different. You may not undestand what is respond time. Only competitive gamer will feel it. 1ms vs 3ms is huge. The only thing heating up in a GPON stick is the laser module, and as Anime4000 here stated, if your laser from ISP isn’t overpowering it’s fine. It’s just a bridge for laser signal, there isn’t anything “affecting” the heat on the stick. It’s not a router running services like DHCP, PPPoE dial up or any other normal router would be doing I run my stick in a 2U server chassis with no extra cooling at the back, my entire household usage per month pertains to about 2TB down 1TB up. The PON stick stays at 34-35 deg, no extra heat/performance dips. Stop using your “GaMiNg WiLl FeEl DiFfErEnT” sentiment in every post ty |

QUOTE(yenchenje @ Jan 24 2024, 12:16 PM) Then pull up proof to prove me wrong that this GPON bridge heating up affects the respond time i just suggest to put a fan on all media converter. Why so angry?Always going on between 1 and 3, just these two numbers specifically. Stop trying to pull shit out of your ass and actually pull out proof that it does in fact add 2 more milliseconds of delay Anyway you are not a gamer not your concern. |
