Hello. Well, my wife and I will be attending our favorite niece’s traditional English wedding in July. It’ll be held at one of the old country manors outside of Manchester/Liverpool area, and she has asked if I could play the piano at her wedding.

She grew up listening to my piano playing whilst we were in Malaysia, and it would be memorable if I could churn out a couple of appropriate tunes for her wedding.

I was thinking of the usual culprits - “Can’t help falling in love” (as popularized in Crazy Rich Asians), “A Thousand Years” (from that gawdawful Twillight sappy saga: quiet apt for my niece’s hubby to be, since she made him wait nearly 10 years!) and Ed Sheeren’s “Perfect”. These will be my own arrangements since I can’t read a single note to save my life - but, who the hell cares, it’s something meaningful that I’m privileged to be asked to do for my niece.

Would like to canvass your opinions and suggestions for any other appropriate songs to be played at weddings?

Many thanks in advance,

Rick Astley is definitely from my time and he recently released a remake album - acoustic versions, and I especially love his reinterpretation of Never Gonna Give You Up and Together Forever. Not sure if he’s from my niece’s era though.

Thank you for the awesome suggestion! Just worked out the chords and the rhythm and melody. Pretty meaningful song too, even for a wedding!

A thousand years and Perfect are when the bride walks down the aisle. This is what they wanted. The rest would be at various different times.

It’s not mine. It’s my niece’s - it would have been held this year July in the UK. But it’s all fcuked up by COVID19. They’ve rescheduled it for next year.

More time for me to practice smile.gif

Whatever it is, dont play sad, heartbroken songs at weddings. 🤣 I was about to suggest November Rain but then the song was about unrequited love so that's out.

This may gives you some ideas.
