1st, my CPU located in Air-Conditioner room, ambient temperature keep in 18 degree C
2nd, I got 3 normal 80mm fans in my Casing.

normal, at that temp your hdd will die young. improve ventilation asap.

My hdd has been running 24/7 at ~50C for 3 years in my SFF, still works plenty fine. But then again i also have 2 deathstars running 24/7 for more than 5 years and they're still fine...

50c thruout the year? the temp will definitely drop during winter in US. in msia diff story.

my laptop's hdd is running at 42C... during online, listen to music and chatting

The SFF is indoors. The temps don't vary as much as outside, one would hope.

using WD 80GB IDE but the temperature is 41-45 all the time. has been using for 1.5 years. no problem so far. still have tested my new WD 250GB SATA2. anyway, i heard that WD HDD is much hotter than Seagate's.

nothing strange for the difference as i place the WD right under the Maxtor, so WD have more space beneath it, so better airflow for the WD

currently WD250 @36°C, IMO, below 40°C is ideal temp for HDD , i've got 120mm case fan blowing direct to HDD...

My primary hdd around 35-39c, secondary hdd around 30-33c. Both WD in non-aircond room, the primary one always 5c higher than secondary hdd, dunno is it normal.

i got my 80gb maxtor hdd placed behind a 12cm fan, 34c all the time.

mid 40's, goes a shigh as 51-52 sometimes. Don't let it go above 60c though.

i think u need buy extra sensor for it

hard disks are designed to run even at 60C
i dun think there will be any problem even if it's 30C, 40C or 50C

proud to say that my WD hard disks run pretty smoothly at the mid 40s celcius...

desktop-46 degrees
lappy-42 degrees.

By the way, a hard disk always has an optimum tempature to run smoothly, making it too low or absurdly high can be a problem for the functionality of the hard disk...

TS has to define why high temps.. i assume at 40 degrees to 50 degrees will destroy/kong the hard disk faster?

And i believe that as long u run the hard disk at operational temperatures given by the company, you wont have problems with your hard disk

Just google for the HDD datasheet. It should have the operating temperatures in there.
For ST3320620AS @ Seagate 320GB, it's 0 - 60c.

not like that la bro. what i meant here, my casing is a bit big with very2 small hardware inside. only using lowend proc+onboard VGA only. whis may affect the internal temp of my case which is no other heat source other than northbridge+and proc only.....

Uh nice thread. Just wanna ask why my Seagate temp is much higher than others. The placing is very much the same as other HDD in my casing. Except the Raptor which is all alone up there being blown by a 12cm fan lol. D:

I tried once getting my HDD temperature up to 55-60c so i shut it down and restart the computer. Later on S.M.A.R.T report that one of the attribute is not OK. After that the temperature run back the usual 28-33c for some times, the attribute from S.M.A.R.T once again shows OK so i guess temperature too high isn't really good for HDD.

i tried everest but it just couldnt detect 2.5" temp ....

even i connect as esata too

a cheapo hdd fan (those around rm20, plenty in lyp) will cool down ur hdd effectively...

Temp 1 is mostly likely your CPU, Temp 2 and 3 could either be the Northbridge or PWM IC.

well,my Raptor Raid in 0 and running without using any hdd cooler one,temp is 30-32 like that for both.(good ventilation only)

and i can see that Seagate and Samsung hdd is a bit hotter than WD and Hitachi.

mine 42c peak 45c, should be ok i think. Seagate quite hot actually...
