As the world's biggest and richest club, Manchester United reach a global fanbase.

Part of the attraction for fans around the world has been the football luminaries, such as George Best and Sir Bobby Charlton, who have graced the Old Trafford turf in a Manchester United shirt over the years.

Recently, Manchester United have continued to attract or develop some of the game's biggest names, with England stalwarts such as Paul Scholes and David Beckham having been regular fixtures in the Reds line-up.

The Manchester United team, past and present, reads like a who's who of world football.

It is only fitting that a great team should grace a great stadium. And with Old Trafford's recent development and the closure of Wembley, the ground is easily the largest in English football, holding in excess of 60,000 fans.

Despite this capacity, the demand to see United in action is so great that tickets are hard to come by.

But it isn't only Manchester United fans who flock to Old Trafford. The standard of the ground is such that it regularly hosts high-profile games, most notably, the Champions League Final and Great Britain rugby league games.

Rock fans have also made use of the Reds's facilities, watching a number of high-profile acts at the ground.

But it's football that will forever be synonymous with the Reds famous ground - and with good reason.

The last decade has seen Manchester United under the shrewd leadership of Sir Alex Ferguson maintain a virtual stranglehold on the Premiership crown.

Manchester United has won the league no fewer than 18 times in their history. They are also Cup Kings too, winning the FA cup 11 times, the league cup 4 times, as well as winning the European Super Cup, European Cup Winner's Cup, and 3 times being crowned European Cup champions.

Manchester United has long become a name associated with success both on and off the pitch.

As club profits continue to grow, Manchester United have become one of the richest sports clubs on the planet.

With supporters club branches on every continent, it's hard to go any where in the world and not see somebody wearing the famous red shirt of Manchester United.

Hope Alien will sticky this info later.
Though written in 2006 so no Roy Keane yet.

Ex-United players that have moved on to become managers.

Written by Simon Stone (MARCH 22, 2006)

STEVE BRUCE (1987-1996): Took his first steps in management with Sheffield United in 1998, then swiftly moved on to Huddersfield, Wigan and Crystal Palace. Left Selhurst Park in acrimonious fashion after Birmingham targeted him as the replacement for Trevor Francis in 1991. Took Blues into the Premier League but after a heavy FA Cup defeat is struggling to keep his job.

MARTIN POWELL (1971-1983): Stylish and well-respected Scotland centre-half whose authoritative nature appeared to make him a natural for the management game. Lasted four months at Burnley.

SIR BOBBY CHARLTON (1956-1973): Arguably the finest English player of all time proved to be an unmitigated disaster as a manager. Claimed he was not given the resources to make a decent job of it at Preston but was never lured back into management following his departure after a single season.

STEVE COPPELL (1975-1983): After a knee injury cut his playing career short at just 28, Coppell turned his attention to management. Steered Crystal Palace into the FA Cup final and then third place in the old First Division - the Eagles' highest ever - the following season. It was the first of four stints in charge at Selhurst Park in a career which has seen him move to Manchester City (for only six games), Brentford and Brighton. Now at Reading and about to steer the Royals into the top flight for the first time.

PADDY CRERAND (1962-1971): A key figure in United's 1968 European Cup triumph, Crerand lasted five months at Northampton before getting the bullet and, like Charlton, never managed again.

MARK HUGHES (1983-86, 1988-95): Hughes was never tipped as a manager by Ferguson but has taken to the game with ease. Took Wales into the Euro 2004 play-offs. Took over at Blackburn shortly afterwards, steering Rovers away from danger in his first season. Currently in contention for a Champions League spot.

BRIAN KIDD (1967-1974): Another European Cup winner who proved to be a poor manager. Got itchy feet in 1998 after spending seven years as Sir Alex Ferguson's highly-rated assistant. Took command at Blackburn but dismissed six months later.

BRYAN ROBSON (1981-94): United's inspirational leader under Ron Atkinson and Ferguson. There are two schools of thought on his stint at Middlesbrough - he either spent lots and achieved little (relegation and two losing finals) or he laid the platform for the Teessiders to become an established Premiership outfit. Kept West Brom up in extraordinary fashion last year but back in trouble again this season.

GORDON STRACHAN (1984-89): Scotland international who won the FA Cup with United and the title of the pre-Premiership era with Leeds. Sacked after five years at when the Sky Blues lost top-flight status, then enjoyed success at Southampton - reaching the 2003 Cup final - before resigning to spend more time with his family. Now at Celtic, has recovered from a humiliating Champions League exit to Artmedia Bratislava, and, after winning his first trophy on Sunday in the CIS Insurance Cup, is set to clinch the Scottish Premier League.

NOBBY STILES (1960-71): Along with Charlton, one of only two Englishmen to have won the World Cup and European Cup, he replaced his former England and United team-mate at Preston, with limited success. After a brief stint in Vancouver, returned to England to take over as manager of West Brom. Sacked after five months, having gained just three wins.

only after 1st goal, they start to rev their engine. before that, all look lost. 1 of the best ole strategy should i call it, is when Shaw dribble through the middle of the field. Shaw has been doing since his comeback. quite effective since he has the pace unlike when maguire doing it.

difference between real no.9 and inside forward... ighalo always make sure he is in the box every stream of attack... with bruno and mata... he sure will have enough supply... its just a matter of converting... while martial would always go to the wing or within same line with the AMs to get the ball... i think ighalo deserve a chance for the derby this weekend...

rooney as usual... classy world class player... those free kicks are sick but romero lagi sick... DDG under pressure now... lol

De Bruyne injured, Maguire also injured.

Lingard ytd got some improvement but i don't think first team got his slot. The option of frontline we have now will be Martial, Ighalo, Mata, Greenwood only

i think maguire can make it back on time... DJ also should be come back to the squad... man city suit his play style... but i feel our front 3 should be ighalo, martial and greenwood... martial take on rashford place to attack from the left... DJ come in as impact sub

frankly speaking... this season only the first game vs man city and vs liverpool we started off well... most of the games we started badly but somehow win in the end or fight back to draw... rmb the 4-0 thrashing of chelsea? we played like shit during first half actually... til the penalty open up our floodgate... lol

yea... those matches when he subbed in... he only have less than 20 mins to do shit... when he always in the penalty box to try to do something... just the time not enough for him to perform... unless he is a super sub like soksjaer... lol

hehe import from china good. delighted that ighalo score. i see it coming and proves myself right lol. always in position to receive the ball and have chance to score in the games he played.

think martial replace james position, let ighalo as center forward better. dunno coincidence or strategy. so far none of the transfers flop

difference between real no.9 and inside forward... ighalo always make sure he is in the box every stream of attack... with bruno and mata... he sure will have enough supply... its just a matter of converting... while martial would always go to the wing or within same line with the AMs to get the ball... i think ighalo deserve a chance for the derby this weekend...

rooney as usual... classy world class player... those free kicks are sick but romero lagi sick... DDG under pressure now... lol

yea its to do with our participation in the europa league..

the idea and purpose are to allow teams to have 2-3 days of rest.. since the games are played on a thursday night, our games in the premier league are mostly push to sunday

but there are always debate about one team got an extra off day more than the other..

eg. chelsea play on tuesday and man city play on wednesday in the champions league.. but vs each other in the premier league on saturday.. here, chelsea has an extra day to rest

In the back of scene Ole has hire some of the football analyst and analyse which footballer is suitable for recruitment, remember AWB selection? Bruno out from 100+ targets? Ighalo show his Enthusiasm to play for Man Utd, u can see he train hard to get into fitness and reward play, this is the type of player that we want.

Remember what SAF said about signing player? always sign the one which eager to play when wearing Man Utd jersey, not those looking for money.

Last week Friday I was on leave, so i watched the midnight game.

Ighalo - Quite surprise. Hope he maintain his form. May be he will only play cup games and against weak Europa opponent. But if he can score, why not.

McTom - still need games to bring back his top form. It was obvious.

Lingard - He played quite well. Haiz, if he can play well against BPL team, we didn't even need to buy Bruno.

Eric Bailly - If he is not that injury-prone, I am sure he is the top defender in our team, but not Maguire or Lindelof.

Luke Shaw - When everyone thought he will be replaced by B.Williams, he seems getting better and better. That made me cannot understand at all, why OGS still wanna buy a left back. Buy a right wing, fxxk.

Diogo Dalot - really disappointed, say wanna challenge AWB, but still showing nothing special while other team mates are playing well. Would rather see either Shaw or B.Williams to play as Right Back instead of him, in Man City match.

Sancho. But he didn't want to leave yet last summer. So we make do with James first(squad/backup option).

Yeah Dalot so far is a really meh. Touted as the best young up and coming RB, but he's not fast. Defending so so. Attacking wise also so so. Injuries doesn't help.

give him time to get back his fitness... you see shaw and bailly... they also need time to get back the fitness after came back from injuries... for players that came back from long term injuries... i wont judge them so fast... dalot used to be pacey and his cross is not bad when he was not injured last season... for those who not injured and always play meh... time to say bye2 during the summer..

Team news

Man Utd v Man City (16:30 GMT)

Phil Foden starts for Manchester City, as Kevin de Bruyne misses out with a back injury.

City make six changes from their 1-0 FA Cup win at Sheffield Wednesday, with only Joao Cancelo, Nicolas Otamendi, Bernardo Silva, Rodri and Sergio Aguero keeping their places.

Ederson, Raheem Sterling, Ilkay Gundogan, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Fernandinho and Foden all come in.

Man City: Ederson, Cancelo, Otamendi, Fernandinho, Zinchenko, Bernardo, Rodri, Gundogan, Foden, Aguero, Sterling. Subs: Bravo, Walker, Jesus, Silva, Mendy, Mahrez, Garcia.

Manchester United make seven changes from Thursday's 3-0 cup win at Derby.

Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka play despite fitness issues this week, while David de Gea, Anthony Martial, Daniel James, Brandon Williams and Nemanja Matic come in.

Only Victor Lindelof, Luke Shaw, Fred and Bruno Fernnades stay in the team.

Man Utd: De Gea, Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw, Wan-Bissaka, Matic, Fred, Williams, Fernandes, James, Martial. Subs: Bailly, Mata, Romero, Ighalo, Greenwood, Tuanzebe, McTominay.

this 5 defender formation looks strong. no jlingz and ap, the matches are so watchable now.

It was slow in Mourinho's last summer transfer window with us. But that was partly because he wanted old CBs and average looking winger(old as well) added to the squad. With the meltdown he had and how toxic he was, glad the board didn't get him what he wants.

But since Ole came in, there is a clear direction he(or the board if you think he's just a yes man for the board) wants with regards to the squad. He sold Fellaini in his first window. Told Lukaku and Smalling he wasn't in his first team plans, which they all later move out. Got rid a couple of deadwoods.

Got in AWB, and Maguire(120m for the pair) and James(backup winger). We were rumoured to be very interested in Sancho even before last summers transfer window. Yeah the AWB and Maguire dragged for weeks, but what to do with English clubs.

Last summer we decided to give Martial back his #9. Pre season we switched Rashford wide.It was clear Martial gonna start as our #9. Rumoured we were in for that ex Juve striker. Nothing happens. But IMO we wanted Haaland. We would have gotten him in January if our position was a lot better and Raiola is not his agent. Good thing is he's at Dortmund. We have another chance in a few years. But by then all the top clubs will be in for him if he continues to perform. There's just no plan B after him. Not many top strikers(or who are destined) around that is available. Good thing we got Ighalo. Barca and Spurs also failed that time to get a backup striker. Just shows hard it is the market in January.

Only thing we were slow was getting that AM in. Which eventually we got Bruno in January. It was such an obvious position aside from RW. Prob we didn't have enough money last summer maybe? Lulz. Glad we got him and don't have to see sampah Lingard and Pereira as first choice anymore.

We deserve to win. We close them down few times. We can put 3-4 goals actually.

mctominay!

would love to see ighalo sign permanent. hold ball so well. much better version of lukaku, if just judge for this few games.

all players looks champion or title challenger material except james and williams. credit to ole in covering williams fast. james macam upgrade version of lingard.

Fantastic victory boys, not easy doing the double over City.
Ighalo in 5 mins showed why he's the striker we have been missing and Bruno probably showed Pogba what playing for the badge means.

No balance d, we know Pogba don't defend. Look at Bruno running back, McSauce n Fred defending, that workrate alone Pogba is set to be warming the bench.

McSauce, Fred and even Matic now is superb.

I dunno why everyone blaming James, his speed caused great trouble to City defence. Yes, he need to improve on decision making and passing.

But remember he is just 22 years old, and this is the first season he is playing in top league. He was suppose to be a backup for left wing. But failure of Kayu to secure a proper right wing has force him to become our right wing. Some more 1st eleven.

Too much for him in 1st season. He will be a better backup next season after we settled down.

Great job by the lads.
McTominay's shot wasn't easy but he made it look so.
Ighalo's first touch is pure class.
James made some bad decisions but he will come good with more experience.
Things are looking up with the team. If we can get Kane and Sancho in the summer, we could make a strong challenge for the title next season.
And btw, Pogba can go screw himself with his agent. We don't need players who hold the club to ransom.

OGS should bench pogba until that raiola apologises
And sell him if got proper price, reinvest in new players

Woodward was wrong in his concept of building around pogba, millions have been spent just to look for players to accomodate pogba, when the inconsistent show off pogba was the real problem till now

QUOTE(Wan @ Mar 9 2020, 02:02 AM)

*
yeah... at least now the pieces all slowly gather into one unit... glad that we are not building a team around pogba anymore... ole give so much focus on him and in the end get betrayed so many times... the raiola fiasco he also totally silent... stupid pog... sell him and get savic in better...

rashford position is definitely suit him the most... he is trying to emulate ronaldo style by scoring through wing play... its hard for him to play no.9 due to his hunger for the ball on his feet... same applies to martial... ighalo is a good example for the youngsters to follow... his performance is not bad for china import striker... lol

Pogba has his issues. When he plays well, he's the best player in the league. But when the chips are down, he's inconsistent. But as we see in the first half this season and compare that to after Bruno came in. It's night and day. Like Ole said, we finally have that box opener. Pogba had Lingard who don't score or assist whole of last year, or Pereira who works hard, but zero creativity play ahead of him. They're shite unforfunately. And Rashford and Martial oso still young and inconsistent last season and before that. But it's coming together now for them.

Ighalo was tearing up the league in his time with Watford. I think that's why we went for him. No need to wait to settle down. And his touch is Berba like last night. Power weh his cameo.

I think our transfer strategy is look at what we need, find player who wants to be here. If he's English/British/Irish or knows the league even better.

Hopefully we get Sancho. That would complete the team. And even if Pogba stays, hopefully we went all in for Grealish. Plenty of games for everyone. Can release Lingard and Pereira. Grealish can play CM/AM/LW. Get it done Woody.

..

Great game last night. Cukur for Var. laugh.gif

i agree on the pogba's talent and his skills... but he slow the team down with his shielding and skills show off whenever we are counter attacking... while bruno play alot of one-two, one touch passes to supply the ball to striker as soon as possible... thats the difference... he can do the same skills like pogba, but he chose the most effective way for the team to win... and he really willing to back track all the time... frankly speaking... for someone like pogba... he should lift the team up instead of sulking when others are not performing...

var did 1 for us and against them... so its fair... lol... its their GK and vulnerable defense who cause their downfall... and we had another clean sheet... 10 matches unbeaten! going back to ole interim mode... hopefully can start ighalo when playing against weaker team as we will need someone inside the box for matches like those...

as outspoken as raiola may be.. dont think he is that oblivious enough to come out himself openly speaking on behalf of his client.. i do suspect there's permission given by pogba as well for him to act so

Our remaining fixtures compare to competitor for top 4.

I believe we have most weaker team but our result against weaker team and away result not so great. Hope with Bruno and incoming pogba will have a positive results.

U can see clearly on Pogba body language, when he lost the ball, he will just sit on the pitch and look at referee, when Bruno lost the ball and referee didn't whistle, he just stand up and continue to run.

Martial and Bruno has totally linked up, James still indecisive and wasted 2 passing to Bruno on counter attack, i can't wait how is it when Rashford is back brows.gif brows.gif

We've never had any problems with the top teams as we've always sat back and hit them on the counter. It's the lower teams that we've not had any clue on how to open them up.

Consistency is another issue and thank god for VAR.

Pressing last night has improved from before.

Unbeaten run continues. Whether ole stays or remains hinges on top 4. Last night was good individual performances vs below par from city. Their finishing was horrendous, while ours was fantastic and Scotts instinct was great.

i think with bruno... and coming back pogba... we should able to gone through the weaker teams unscathed... plus the defense also improved compared to first half of the season... i think the loss at burnley has caused some players days in the club numbered as well... lol... in the end it could be both chelsea and man utd in top 4 but leicester dropped out of it... their forms recently hot and cold like spurs...

We had good wingback performances last night. Mid was flawless. Attack was meh.. Ole's tactics was an oldie last night. It worked because of city's ego on always on possession and high defensive line. Our game throughout was 10 man behind the ball and hit on the counter.

yeah... dont fix something if its not break... ole know pep will go all high pitch pressing and possession based.. so ole just implement the same strategy... now with fitter midfield and defense... if rashford is in ytdy... i guess it wont be 2-0 only... the full back of city is like butter... lol

Also, dun forget that it was hardly City's key line up. David Da Silva and KDB were missing. Fernandinho played as a makeshift CB. Both goals were due to keepers error. Not going to be carried away by this win.
Having said that, the lads really played their heart out and performed as a team.

we cant look at it this way... our first game away vs man city... they have kdb and david silva... in the end otamendi who score the only goal... and i think the fa cup away against them... also they have better line up against us... and we dont have bruno back then... so up against the strong team... our spirit always oozing... but kelong when against relegation battler.. lol

We need a player in the mould of either chicharito, Rooney or tevez up top. Those whom can make intelligent runs.

2 pure wings, so that we can fly. DJ just fluttering right now. Needs more experienced.

Pogba replacement.

Modern manager should ole be blowing hot and cold.

And can anyone explain how is grealish that great? I can't see him being a 50m player. His impact is not there at all. Maybe championship level like DJ at this moment.

Lost possession for more than 5 times, one touch then mis-pass. Problem he is not Bruno type of player, Bruno will make some risky pass but it will converted into goals if he succeed.

Seem like Ole has given green light to sell Lingardinho, Lingard and Smalling maybe can fetch around 30-40mil pound for us.

as long as its proper no.9 will do... our current strikers all not out and out striker... lol...

right wing for sure needed... left wing we have rashnaldo for the time being... DJ being the back-up...

savic coming in to replace pogba or maybe grealish...

grealish kinda like zaha... big fish in a small pond... you cant see how impress he is because he is doing everything on his own in AV... he is the LW, CAM, CM, ST and sometimes LB of the team... lol... but despite all these... his stats still one of the top for AM in EPL... plus he has the heart to play it out dead for his own team and leadership skills as well like bruno... u wont see him sulk like pogba despite the team playing badly all the time

Grealish will flourish if he join us, now AV fighting for relegation battle and lost 4-0 to Leicester. It will be a dilemma for Kayu, sign him before summer market or sign him when AV confirm relegate? the pricing can be fluctuate.

Perreira still has heart to play for us, he promise to improve and we shall see. Now Matic also agree to extend his contract and his form has been back. Meaning we have 3 fully fit midfielder (Matic/Fred/Bruno) and 1 semi-fit midfielder (Mcsauce).

As for Jones i think also heading out this summer, never seen his name at bench for many games.

yeah... mctom also soon fully fit... i think this season we may have chance to end up with at least one kicik miao cup... the defense for now seems sorted out... 2 goals conceded in 10 matches... i think RW, CDM and pogba replacement would be enough for summer... keep ighalo as our back up striker next season...

Italia Serie A league get banned totally until 3 April due to Covid-19. Might will halted further if situation is not improving. Teams participated in Europe competitions will organize in empty stadium.

France Ligue 1 also started to have matched within empty stadium.
Spain La Liga & German Bundesliga not yet, but seems will follow

A lot of teams of those countries are still in Europa League, if we can advance into next stage, we really need extreme luck to avoid those countries.

If Covid-19 continue to spread in Europe, the effects will be even bigger ... transfer market, EURO 2020, several leagues get halted or even cancelled, etc ...

Enjoy watching football while u can.

Enjoy watching football while u can.

i think have to play at neutral ground if its away matches to avoid the spread of the infections... especially italy and spain teams... dont think UK gov will let our team travel to their country for away matches...

Tatith is using Inter Milan to raise the negotiation, anyway earning 30k per week is quite good already, Greenwood if not mistaken get 25k/week

Mark my words, this Chong won't stay long one.
He show his personality already, always money x 3.
No performance yet already want earn more than Greenwood, how will Greenwood feel?

Let him stay until 2021, then sell him using the image of wonder kid.
Already don't like him ....

Hopefully Gomes next to announce resigning. I rate him higher than Chong.

Same here, I am not sure, but for me, it give me the feeling where the reason for Chong and Gomes not to sign new contract is different. Chong want money, but Gomes want more match. And Gomes also perform better than Chong whenever given chance in first team.

we can offload minimum 5 players this summer. Pogba, AP, Lingard, Sanchez and Chong. I am not convinced Chong will make it at Man Utd. At least not now. He seems nervous everytime he played, unlike Greenwood. Maybe he needs more game.

Jamie Carragher believes Manchester United's Aaron Wan-Bissaka is the best full-back in the world when it comes to defending in one-vs-one situations.

United boosted their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League with a big 2-0 victory over local rivals Manchester City on Sunday, Wan-Bissaka drawing praise for the way he nullified the threat of Raheem Sterling.

Sterling is widely regarded as one of the best wingers in the world but he failed to make an impact when put up against the £50million right-back.

never doubt his defending. Offensive wise, that's another story. But last few games, he was very good in attacking.
Keep Sterling quiet the whole 90mins and Mahrez couldn't pass him too

No need to sell Smalling yet. He's done well in Roma. We are really quite thin at the back currently. We need to get Mike back to his form under LVG.
