Hi peeps, I'm looking for a Desktop to be served as a Server in the back of his retail shop. The specification below is the preferred set of hardware I wish him to have:

1. 16 GB RAM
2. CPU (at least Quad Core)
3. SSD (500 GB)

Do you have experienced in incompatibility motherboard issue when using Ubuntu? I don't know any other distro, Ubuntu is the most familiar Linux distro for me.
Can you guys recommend the most compatible Motherboard brand for Ubuntu? E.g. Gigabyte, Asus, etc

Beside, I have another question about where to source for the cheapest & reliable hardware in KL.

Duke, would you consider using cloud solution? Google cloud gives you USD $300 credits. You can run tens of Ubuntu servers smile.gif

I think motherboard compatibility is irrelevant

You most likely have to deal with CPU, GPU, PCIE devices, etc

i was talking mainly about the compatibility between cpu and motherboard especially from amd side

for intel, same socket mostly fine i think sweat.gif

linux (be it ubuntu, fedora, arch, etc) can run on any cpus so dont worry to much about it

Ubuntu has been incredibly forgiving in terms of motherboard brands overall in my experience.
I wouldn't put any specific recommendations as any of the big brands should work.

There are basically only 2 options for CPU, AMD or Intel. Again both should work fine. AMD is the popular one for builders.

Good luck
