you guys will have to hang on... normally, the details of the promos are only announced 4 days or so before the PC Fair...

There was a promotion for ACPP last time around, MB ACPP was only RM699.

Maybe they are trying to clear the iPod Nanos, with the rumored new Nanos coming so soon.

Mac retailers here tend to keep a very small inventory. Most of the time you'll need to order the machine and wait around a week for delivery. They then order it from Apple Singapore who in turn order it from Taiwan. Since Build-To-Order Macs take only about a week longer, I'd assume that there are very few stocks to clear whenever a new model comes out.

In any case; the promos are usually by Apple Malaysia rather than the resellers; old stocks are hardly an issue as they play an adminstrative role rather than act as a distributor. To clarify; Apple Malaysia does not operate to distribute stocks to Apple Resellers; They determine pricing and run promos. Stock comes out of Singapore.

At least that's what I understand. Jeyadev (Xaw****) would certainly know more as the resident Mac professional on this board.

sorry to confuse you, but when i meant spamming, i meant it figuratively....

the only way to look forward to is to be patient and wait out for that pc-fair deal.... it's just less than 12 hours away so to speak.... there'll be plenty of booths for you to spend your $$, Apple-related ones are just a fraction of them. And if you don't mind, you can spend on me.

The Mac Mini has not been updated in a looooong time. I suggest you wait a bit more. Unfortunately, the next best thing ie. the iMac is also rumored to be replaced next week.

My suggestion is to wait at least until the announcement comes out next week before finalizing your purchase plans.

If I am not wrong, they are discontinuing the Mac mini.

I have to say... Mac booth has never been attractive in PC Fair, nor is its deal.
Sometimes it's hard not to blame the Mac dealers of the low market penetration of mac hardwares.

well, without knowing the whole story, its very easy to get the story wrong...

Well, Macs are still too small to make any impact on the local market, who have always been more interested in price over quality. It's hard to make them see the long term (ease of use, reliability, ease of maintenance) when all they see if the price difference.

I think they did the right thing focusing on the iPods, seeing that they jive better with the Malaysian crowd.

@Jokersson: Well you can't really say that. There's no proof that says apple's product has higher quality than ALL others. The argument that mac products last longer than PC products are highly debatable. Eg. Some people are still running x486 machines. Some mac products break down in less than 3 months. The fact is there are so many manufacturers of PC products compared to sole production line of mac, thus the idea of having one quality inspection unit over all these manufacturers is quite a luxury.

I was looking for ipods, but can't seem to find them. In the end gave up. Well, its more like what I want rather than what I need, so a ringgit saved is a ringgit earned.

Point taken dannytzh. I'm not saying that Apple products are superior to others, just in the context of its promotions at the ongoing PC Fair (iPods, not Macs). Interesting to know why you made the switch to Macs, if you have...

@Jokersson: Well I'm using a 3-yr-old iBook G4. The biggest reason I bought it was bcoz this was the cheapest 12.1" laptop at the time, and I do quite a bit of Photoshop designs, thus the switch.

So far the experience has been good, but since the switch to Intel proc, I have been comparing between MBP 15.4" and pc laptops, and felt that Apple products, albeit good, are really overpriced. The only advantage it has over laptop is its OS, which for now is not a concern for me anymore.

FYI, I just bought NEC Versa E6310. Guess it's back to PC for me!

really cheap huh? got one booth..selling the ipod nano boomwave skin for rm79..and asked for discount..said cannot give..fixed price..ermm..last 2 week i got one for rm65! hahah from lowyat...

mine is not boomwave....can't remember the name, will post up picture soon, got it at rm49 , normal price rm89.....

A friend of mine got 3 ipod skins for 50 ringgit at PC fair. Not sure what brand though.

I don't think Apple's build quality is always as superb as legend makes it out to be. However, I find the quality aspect comes in the design, both of the hardware and in particular of the OS. I am an IT pro, and I use Macs at home because I don't want to waste my own time coddling my computer. I want to use it. It has always provided me with that. I see Windows users dealing with viruses and trying to uninstall software, get hardware to cooperate, etc... and I used to have to spend some of my work time helping them with this as well.

I have never once done the reformat and reinstall ritual in over 20 years of Mac use - even when doing major OS version upgrades. When I get extra hardware, I research it for a few minutes online, then buy it, plug it in, and go. I don't install the driver CDs or anything, it just works. I basically never spend any time maintaining the computer or dealing with its issues, it just works for me every single day. That's what I call quality.
