Hi, I'm a noob in OC. The first and the last time i OC something was the Galaxy 6600GT. I clocked the core at about 590MHz and the RAM at 1.1GHz+-. I used it at this settings for a few weeks and it had no problem. The only worrying thing was the temprature (marginal difference below and above 70C).

However, unfortunate i was , my bro played Battlefield 2 at relatively high settings (heavy load) while i was away and when i came back, i can't on the PC. My bro said he had no problems while gaming for the whole day.

I can't on it and later found out that the VGA burned black at the processor and it dragged my mobo and PSU to the reaper.

With this, i was afraid that the same scenario to happen again if i choose to oc the Pentium E2160 up to 2.8Ghz at the core and 1333MHz at the FBS (at stock volt) even if i have a better air cooling system (i can't afford liquid cool). Everything burns AFTER the pc was switched off.

Any advice on this matter?

Secondly, the specs of the new rig that i'm gonna build with the E2160 are as follow:
+ Colourful 8800GT (the cheapest 8800GT reference card that i can find)
+ OCZ Reaper HPC800 4-4-4-15 (max volt oc under-warranty is 2.2V; stock volt oc frequency is 934Mhz at 4-3-3-15 as far as i know)
+ ASUS P5NE-SLI (NFC55 chipset)
+ SB Audigy 4 (prefering this other than X-Fi series to keep my rig below the RM3k budget)
+ Samsung 250GB HDD SATA2 (one of the quietess and value-to-money performance)
+ 450W PSU
+ DVD writer, AVF red metal casing

And i plan to use double-boot OS, XP and Vista cuz Vista is not reliable for work. I only want Vista for DX10 gaming.

Any thoughts or suggestion of improvisation in terms of OC and hardware specs about this sort of rig? Or is it too much for the E2160? if so i'll opt for the RM575 Core 2 Duo E6550, which would break the RM3k budget.

Drop the OCZ ram, go for value ram instead.
Get 320gb hdd, its cheap now.

Get a good PSU, Enermax FMA2 460w only RM199 at lowyat.
E2160 will do, no worry.
Even E2140 will do smile.gif
Both CPU should get you near 3ghz (after OC) with stock hsf.

For ur previous rig, I would said it killed by "short circuit".
So, get a good PSU this time.

Your post should be in Hardware QnA section instead of here.

Maybe i put at the wrong section but i wanna ask something about OC the RAM also.

BTW, really thanks for the recommendation.... But value RAM? the clock is only at 667, capable for games like Crysis and Far Cry 2? the latency was higher as well, unless i choose to oc the latency and hunt for heat sinks for RAM.....

u don really need good rams. there's little difference running on 1:1 ratio or higher unless ur into bragging ur memory scores. AFAIK, most value rams 'will' do ddr2 800 4-4-4-12 easily.

So tat means i don't have to worry about extra heat from the RAM issues?
Then wat is the best vaue ram to oc in a safe region to 4-4-4-15(or 12) and 800MHz (the ASUS P5NE-LI stock RAM clock is at 800)
