Usually laptops have switches built in them to detect if the lid is open or closed...in order to conserve power. Even the power option in the control panel doesn't help...because it cannot detect if the lid is closed or open.
Apparently this new inspiron models doesn't have them built in.
All i can do is set timer to a lower limit and let it turn off the screen after a minute or so. What a pain.
Are you sure? My 1520, I've set it to hibernate when lid is closed and it does exactly that when close the lid. I think you did not enable "Hibernate" or "Standby" option in the Power Settings.Apparently this new inspiron models doesn't have them built in.
