Strange not many ask about house signage. I guess many just go to the hardware store, buy some numbers and letters and stick them together or simply just use back what the developers had given us. I am the latter one, until now.

Not happy with what the developer had given me, which is just a metal sign, attached with double sided tape to the wall. Recently it had dropped down after 5 years so I decided to get something different.

I found this sign maker in Facebook and after some design decisions, it arrived about a week later. They have several designs and I chose this one. I live in an apartment so its suitable for me. Cost me RM183. It is made from iron sheets and then powder coated. I chose a color that almost exactly matches my aluminum door frame. It was very well made.

Mounting hardware which consist of two wall anchors are included. You need a drill (preferably rotary hammer drill) and a #10 masonry drill bit. It seems overkill for the small sign but it is much easier to install with just turning the nuts instead of a screw as you cant get a screwdriver in there.

Instead of a flat 2 dimensional plate with letters/numbers, I decided on this design which gives it a 3D look. And it also gives some possibility to hide wires for lights, or maybe hang some decorations during festive celebrations.

For lights, I used an led lightstrip made by Yeelight which can be connected to the Internet via Wifi. Smart light will give many possibilities like change color temperature, change color, brightness, schedules, and even automations later on. Instead of sticking the lightstrip to the inside of the signage, I decided to stick it to a piece of corrugated plastic sheet bend into an L-shaped to fit the signage. This way I can easily remove the lights whenever I want. I just slip the whole thing inside to install.

I still need to hack the wall later to hide the wires. I also pulled a USB cable to the signage so I can power any USB devices. Maybe can use for an IP Cam or maybe some fairy lights. I found that I can stick a Xiaomi Xiaofang Camera using its magnetic base to the signage. It seems to fit perfectly which I didnt plan on doing earlier.

Here are some photos of other designs. The numbers and letters are all laser cut and powder coat painted.

I like the idea and how it looks, but I am scared that if the sign stays outside for some time, the letter and numbers might fall. Does anyone have any similar model but with a more solid shape like a circle or rectangle?

I totally get your concern about durability. I've had a similar experience and found that using good quality materials really makes a difference in how well the sign holds up over time. For a solid and modern design, I recommend checking out Modern House Numbers. I got the Rectangle plaque model in Brushed Aluminum from their website for under $100. Almost three years later, it still looks brand new, and I couldn't be happier with my choice. They offer a variety of designs, colors, and shapes, so you will find something that fits your house and needs perfectly.
