Coronavirus: Premier League ditches pre-match fair-play handshakes

The Premier League has announced that the pre-match handshakes between both teams and officials will not take place until further notice because of fears over the spread of coronavirus. The measure comes the day after the government asked the league "to step up its contingency planning".

The teams will still line up as usual but the home team will walk past the away side without shaking hands. There have been more than 90,000 cases of the virus in 87 countries.

A statement on the Premier League's website said: "The Premier League fair-play handshake will not take place between players and match officials from this weekend until further notice based on medical advice. Coronavirus is spread via droplets from the nose and mouth and can be transmitted on to the hands and passed on via a handshake."

Premier League leaders Liverpool announced on Thursday that they would not be having mascots at Anfield. They have also cancelled staff travelling to any high-risk countries and "reminded everyone of good hygiene practices". The club also said there will be "hand sanitisers and/or antibacterial handwash in all the washrooms at Anfield" as well as hygiene information posters.

Last week Newcastle manager Steve Bruce said the club had stopped their morning handshake ritual while West Ham boss David Moyes said the players would be fist bumping instead of shaking hands.

Southampton also banned players from signing autographs or taking selfies with fans.

League One club Sunderland have also told their players to not go abroad during their upcoming break.

Wonder if he’ll live up to expectations should he get his way though. Demanding for more salary should go hand-in-hand to each player’s performance on the field hmm.gif

It’s been awhile since a match could make me glued to the tv for the full 90 minutes biggrin.gif So many positives that could be seen in tonight’s match:

- Gilmour is the calmness we need in the midfield. Pure class 18-year old, we need to extend his contract for another 5–10 years

- Mount and Pedro were on fire tonight! (so does Barkley with his fabregas-esque pass) Both got on the scoresheet. Hopefully the injury on Mount is just a minor one

- Giroud as always, great link-up play with the winger. Good concentration to see the ball for his goal from the corner kick. Hopefully Lampard utilize him more imho

- Kepa got another clean sheet! biggrin.gif

- More youngsters having opportunities to play for the team (Anjorin, Broja). Slowly seems like a blessing in disguise. We finished the match with three 18-year olds on the field

KTBFFH!

It seems that the virus has slowly affecting the football world, with the Bayern game announced to be played in closed doors.

It is reported that there are indeed fans from UK that are angry as they already booked flight tickets to the game in Germany. But then again, there’s nothing that could be done imho

On a side note, news from Daily Star biggrin.gif

“Chelsea are set to sign rising Finland star Jimi Tauriainen from HJK Helsinki.

Tauriainen, who has just turned 16, will join the Blues in the summer on a three-year contract.”

Somehow i love the fact that we are recruiting more youngsters. Lampard’s blueprint definitely revolves around them, and it showed that we are preparing for the future

“Coronavirus: Chelsea fury as Mason Mount leaves self-isolation for park kickabout with Declan Rice.

England's Mason Mount is under fire after taking part in a public kickabout with Declan Rice - despite the Chelsea star having meant to be in self-isolation amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The England pair, both 21, were spotted at the Trent Park Football centre, near Barnet, on Sunday lunchtime.

A stunned dad told Mirror Sport: “I took my 14-year-old son there for a training session.

“We noticed a car that looked a bit ridiculous and wondered who was in it. Then another came along with three or four people inside. My son recognised Mason Mount as the driver.”

“They were wearing snoods but it wasn’t obvious whether they were using them to protect other people or so they wouldn’t be noticed.”

“Former Chelsea star John Obi Mikel sensationally QUITS Trabzonspor over coronavirus fears as the Turkish league continues despite outbreak”

Sos: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/sportsnew...irus-fears.html

The Turkish league continues with their match schedules despite other leagues already suspended their matches.

Some people really don’t see the depth of the outbreak I guess. Kudos to Mikel for prioritizing his health over football, imo

It’s been awhile since any transfer news for Chelsea popped up (most probably due to Covid-19 and the match suspensions)

To my surprise, a recent transfer news would include Chelsea trying to snatch Manuel Neuer from Bayern Munich

Sos: https://talksport.com/football/688127/chels...a-arrizabalaga/

And of course, Neuer said NO biggrin.gif

Come on Marina... please get us a proper and much-needed player like Alex Telles, Lautaro Martinez and the likes.

Going for Neuer... wonder why don’t we just go for Messi instead biggrin.gif oh and the left back Alphonso Davies kid.. that one performed really well in our first leg CL against Bayern imo

“Ashley Cole was attacked by a gang of masked robbers at his home, The Sun can reveal.

The ex-England and Chelsea ace’s mansion was ransacked and high value jewellery stolen.

Raiders in balaclavas and camouflage clothes smashed their way in to the property through the rear doors.

Sources said Cole, 39, may have been threatened and tied to a chair but a spokesman on Tuesday night refused to comment on the claims.”

Recent transfer rumours relate us to:

- Aubameyang (Arsenal)
- Mertens (Napoli)
- Kai Harvetz (Leverkusen)
- Max Bird (Derby)
- David Alaba (Bayern Munich)
- Andre Onana (Ajax)

I, for one, won’t put too much hope in this window though. The list above shows that Lamps seem to try grab whoever he can 😂

"Callum Hudson-Odoi may have to miss the return to training at Chelsea after being arrested at the weekend on suspicion of rape.

The winger broke lockdown rules by inviting a woman to his home and she then phoned police after complaining of feeling unwell.

He has since been released on police bail but could now be seen as a potential coronavirus threat to his team-mates.

Chelsea have so far declined to comment on the winger's arrest.

The Blues were due to report on Monday for virus testing with a plan to restart training in small groups on Wednesday.

But since Hudson-Odoi has been in contact with people outside of his household over the weekend he could have become infected."

Chelsea launch official move to sign attacker valued between €30-€35m

“According to the Sun via La Gazette Du Fennec, Chelsea have registered an official interest in Brentford sensation Said Benrahma.

The Sun report that Frank Lampard’s side are set to part ways with veteran wingers Pedro and Willian once their contracts end this summer, opening the door for the club to reinforce in the wide areas.

La Gazette Du Fennec add that Brentford has valued the 24-year-old at €40m, but due to the Coronavirus pandemic they’re willing to drop their price tag to between €30-€35m (£26.9m – £31.3m).”

Just wondering whether we’re still up for the Ajax keeper Onana though

what a bullshit

Bila dah kena sailang, macam tu la jadi nya biggrin.gif

Tbh this coming week will be crucial, as we need to secure Werner officially soonest possible to shut them (and other interested clubs) all out bruce.gif

Also, regarding Chilwell transfer, heard that Leicester put a £60 mil price tag for him, where we would only be willing to spend about £45 mil. Negotiating seem to get complicated, imo now Tagliafico might probably be the most reasonable option sweat.gif

If we actually do get Chilwell, it really shows Roman backing up Lampard big time this time. But then that’ll be all i think. No more target

If we opted for Tagliafico, then we might go for Ake with the remaining budget imo. Or perhaps Gabriel Magalhaes..?

Official: Tino Anjorin signs new Chelsea contract

More good news for Chelsea today, as the club announced that Faustino Anjorin has put pen to paper on a new five-year contract.

The 18-year-old, who leads the Development Squad in goal-scoring and made his senior debut earlier this season, is now set to stay until 2025.
