Hi all,

I never knew that I'm in the depression pit until I look up the symptoms and took the test.

Was wondering if anyone has been to any psychiatrist / psychologist and can share their experience.

Will normal GP clinics willing to write a referral letter to see specialist in hospitals? (I.e. Sunway Medical)

Im asking this to utilize insurance coverage....

Okay i'm not familiar but you can try walking in to a local GP clinic and consult them. There's a likelihood the GP may ask you for your symptoms and try to understand, then recommend you to a relevant hospital/ institution.

If there's no need letter from GP, the doc can at least share you the options and procedures of which hospital to visit.

Your insurance covers mental health? then better double check which hospitals are their panel.

Hi. I managed to get a letter from a GP.

The doctor seem glad that i took the first step in consulting then.

Thanks

Glad to hear that!!

For the benefit of others wondering the same, i actually posed this question to a doctor friend of mine. She said:

Scenario 1:
You can first consult a GP (any private clinic) and they will write a letter of recommendation to the hospital of your choice.

Scenario 2:
First go to any Klinik Kesihatan and consult them. Have them refer you to the Hospital. The cost will be lower for this.

Scenario 3:
If your symptom is really serious, walk-in to the ICU of any hospital. They will do a checking.
- If your case is very serious and requires immediate attention, they will refer you to the Psychiatric immediately
- If your case is not urgent and you're there to get an evaluation, you'll be referred to the relevant department but there'll be waiting involved as it'll be treated as non-urgent case.
