It was raining heavily 2 days ago, almost the whole day. When I got home from work my home has no internet access.

My huawei modem power LED and LAN1 LED are green (LAN1 is where I plug in the network cable from the Asus router), LOS and PON LED are not on.
My Asus router internet LED is also off. Usually it is red when there is no internet connection.

Power off the 2 devices and power on again about 2 hours later. Now on the huawei the power and LAN1 LED are on, but LOS has a blinking red LED. On the Asus router the internet connection LED is red. Waited another hour and power off and power on the device. The results are the same. Left the devices as it is till morning.

In the morning, I again switched off the modem and router, wait 5 minutes and power them on. Now things are better, has internet access.

So does rain affect fibre connection? If rain does get into ISP fibre boxes by the road side or telephone pole, will it affect the connection?

Nope. Rain does not affect Fiber connectivity
Something else might cause it

That's if the fiber box is even closed properly.... I've seen Fiber box left open and the rain can easily get in

Usually no, like normal heavy rain, no affect

if too heavy that kinda u can feel the wind push u then yes because the box can be broken open or the pole fall off and short circuit

Inside fiber cable is a very thin glass, it is not an electric. Fiber is transmit by light. Similar like laser light. I've been using Unifi since 2016, so heavy rain really does not influence internet connection. The problem comes from TM side, not your home fiber cable.

Usually ,tm server sometimes reset itself and cause the problem.
Just off and on back the modem and router .
Once a while happen only.

I was thinking this might be the case. The fibre box for my home is a standing on the ground type with slots for ventilation(?). Maybe during heavy rain with strong wind, rain might be blown into the box causing the circuit to shutdown.

There's nothing inside the dp box can conduct electricity or even causing short circuit. If LOS most likely cause cable broken due to rodent bite or vandalism. If modem light goes disco maybe lightning causes it. But fiber cable cannot conduct electricity.
