Hello, not sure if this is a myth but I don't think it happened to me before, but I did some googling and found out that after washing clothes, hand wash or machine wash, and then hanging the shirt to air dry on a hanger will result in stretching of the collar part, is this true ? I normally hand wash my shirt and squeeze dry as much as i can, about half dry, but water will still drip from the shirt, but I don't recall my shirt having any stretch, so just wanna ask how do you guys hang your shirt to air dry and is the stretching part true or just a myth ?

I see, so if it's those with some quality ones of known brands, does those stretch ? In any case what's the best way to avoid collar stretching while air drying ?

Actually ur shirt or any fabric stretched becos of the squeezing work. Not becos of hanging, not like ur shirt too heavy if hang til can stretch. The more hard u squeeze the more it stretch. Normally our shirt fabric are elastic, so it easily to get stretch after squeeze too much. Just like u spin it half dry inside washing machine, after long it will stretch.
Some fabric not stretch that fast, only after many time u squeeze or spin in washing machine then it obvious stretch. Some low quality fabric u squeeze few times already stretch.
Tips, if u dont want ur shirt stretch, dont squeeze it but compress it using ur hand. It may not gonna be half dry as squeezing and still wetty, only u need to hang it longer under the sun for proper drying.
But myb have certain type of fabric, usually very low quality 1 may get stretch on hanger. Just maybe.

Oh i see, so I have gotten this whole thing about stretching the wrong way, I have always thought that stretching of the collar is because of hanging on a hanger to dry, so the shirt collar won't stretch at all due to hanger, but the collar will stretch if I squeeze ? So in that case, you say compress it using hand, wat do u mean by that ? sorry i don't understand.

Lols hold on, we might confuse about squeezing. For some people squeezing shirt is like u squeeze while turn it right? I mean like when squeeze wif both hands, 1 hand squeeze turn to clockwise and another hand squeeze turn to counter clockwise.
Some people squeezing is just like grab that shirt and just squeeze it without turning, just compress it. Picit. Tats wat i mean by compress.
Picit saja tapi jangan pusingkan. Like u picit a wet sponge in ur hand.πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

ohhh i see i see hahaha, so maksud u memang mesti squeeze, but squeeze WITHOUT turning clockwise & anticlockwise, so no squeeze + twisting of the shirt, just take the shirt, squeeze it with both hands once, then hang dry thats all ?

I just fold it in half when hanging, esp for sweaters or material that easily stretch..
Other way is to use clothespins, and hang it on the shoulder.. but im too lazy..

ahhh i got it, thanks abang. I always thought that I shud squeeze at least half dry and let it hang to air dry, coz if not half dry, the water still alot and it drips from top to bottom of the shirt, the heavy water pressure from the top will cause the collar to stretch, so thats not true eh ? tongue.gif

Means u squeeze it really hard to make it half dry, no wonder ur shirt got stretched. I actually not quite sure also about hanging shirt can cause the collar part to stretch. So far my experience never got collar part stretched either by hanging on hanger or on steel wire. Stretched by spinning in washing machine yes, alot my shirt stretched lastime using washing machine to spin. But its been long already i dont spin use washing machine, just squeezed by hand without twisting, not till half dry, but until my hand not able to dqueeze anymore, still wet wet abit. So far no stretch.

I see, ok i got it, from now on I will just squeeze it with my hands like pressing it, without any twisting. New knowledge for me ! I always have the misconception of if it's still wet and hanging on hanger to dry, it will stretch because of heavy water pressure dripping, now i know it's not true ! Thanks for advice !
