Hi guys, I am considering to get the Hyundai Starex Prime but one of my major concern is the seats do not have side safety belts, all the seats only comes with lap belts, which make it impossible to attach my baby car seat.

Just wondering if anyone here have similar experience and solution to it? I have googled but couldn’t find any solution. Really like the car and do not wish to change my decision due to baby seat issue.

I googled some MPV owner says isofix doesn’t work on the seats..sad.gif that’s why I’m not sure about Starex..

I did, even put deposit for the car (refundable), but according to the salesman (and also his colleague), they say can’t be done...which I felt something could actually be done, Starex is a family car so it’s kinda weird if the car doesn’t come with baby safety setups..

Most if not all child restraint seats should work fine with just a lap belt. A 3-point belt isn't a necessity for as long as the seat can be snugly fastened. Follow the manufacturer's belt routing or if in doubt ask the manufacturer how it should be done. Many cars on the road don't come with a 3-point rear seat belt in the centre. In Europe when you bring your kid on a coach many of them will require you to fasten the restraint seat using just a lap belt as well.

Its actually not much about being fined, more of safety purposes. without the 3-point belt the baby seat wont be fully attached to the belt, normal accident should be just fine but any major accident will definitely not hold the baby seat.

spoke to their CS... still passing me around to service managers and technicians. apparently it is doable if there is no power door, which is sad, and it is not cheap, about 3-4k on 2 middle row seats..

Retrofitted seatbelts will never be as safe as those that were done by the manufacturer.

I'd suggest you buy a different people carrier instead.

starex really nice comfortable car for its spacious interior but previously when my family owned it, the main issue is the height where a lot of underground shopping mall couldn't go in. there is a starex group is facebook "STAROC" quite many members, ts can go join and check with them as many members have retrofitted their car including replacing 2nd row seats with alphard type of pilot massage chairs in the past

currently owning kia grand carnival as a replacement for the starex 2 years ago. overall happy with the cars specs including power doors that comes factory fitted on both sides

the car is for long term purpose, so there isnt any specific yet, so i'd say its for short + long distance.. and no i dont need to bring 11 people at one time but as said, its always better to have long term plannings...

Sounds highly unusual for the Starex to not have isofix, or 3 point seatbelts?

Pretty sure most of the seats, at least the outboard ones have 3 point seatbelts.
