So I just found out recently that you can no longer renew your driver's license online. The problem is I'm currently overseas and won't be able to travel back to Malaysia for a long time to be able to personally show up at JPJ to renew my license. so by the time I'm back in Malaysia, I would have to either pay a heavy fine or retake the driver's test.

I'm out of the loop with regards to what the protocols are these days so, my questions are these:
1) Is it possible to have someone else show up at the JPJ to renew my license?
2) Would JPJ make an exception for my situation i.e. not being able to show up personally?
3) Is there an option to take the test with automatic transmission? (I know, I'm a noob tongue.gif )

For renewal of driving license u need IC and thumbprint to get it done, i do not think they allow renewal on behalf of third party

Wrong, no need thumbprint. Just IC will do.

my IC is with me but I could send it to someone in Malaysia to help me renew if JPJ doesn't require my presence.
maybe I should try consulting the embassy. thanks for that idea

You only need to retake the test if it expired more than 3 years. Mine 1 expired 2.5 years before i realized it, just renew it at post office without any fine.
