Hi everyone, Just wondering what hardware do you all use to do your photo post processing? My PC is currently very slow and whenever I try to do a lot of post processing it takes up so much time which leads me to consider upgrading my PC. Right now do you all use Macs or still mainly with PCs? I see most professional photographers use Macs (Macbook and Macbook Pro). Any comments on this?

New software will use the advantage of multi-cores so that will be more helpful to have any powerful multi-core systems. As for normal users like me, I owned a single core but it still works fine with me. For Macbook and Macbook Pro issue, i think it is just preference. Relatively, there is nothing limits a PC to do what a Mac can (in photo post processing I mean specifically) and the same goes for Mac towards PC. Mac can be more user-friendly or faster appliance, but who really games on Mac? So again it depends. This post has been edited by derred: Jul 18 2007, 11:31 AM

More ram, faster proc and having your pics located in another HD does speed things up.

Hi everyone,
Thanks for your feedback. I understand that you are trying to help but maybe I should have worded my query a little better earlier.
I would like to see what is the difference between a Mac and a PC in terms of post processing. For example, does Adobe Photoshop perform better on a PC or a Mac? Lets say that both use the same specifications in terms of processor speed and amount of RAM.
Hope this clarifies my query a little better. I know that getting a faster processor, more RAM does help but in terms of software architecture of how a program is coded to enhance the use of multi cores, which is better, software running on the Mac OS platform or on Windows (XP or Vista?).
Cheers!

Getting Started

|
the new intel macs doesnt do adobe cs2 very well. its super sluggish and prone to crashes cause it doesnt run natively. only the new cs3 works well. and cs3 is a real pain if you have low rams and is more expensive if compared to cs2 i think. *cough* it doesnt matter if you bought the jack sparrow version, it cost the same then *cough* i dont know much about vista though. i think both macs and pc are on par, it depends on the user on which they would prefer to use. for me i choose mac for it being more safe, if i dont get virus attacks, then i dont lose my data. its up to you to decide which you choose.

Ah thanks for the tip mate! I think I will stick with a PC then as a desktop PC upgrade is still cheaper compared to getting a new Macbook or let a lone a Macbook Pro. Cheers!
