The problem also compounded by kids these days expecting a cushy desk job that they see their father had. During the boomer years, you do whatever you have to do to put food on the table. I have worked front line jobs, door to door selling, out in the sun, in the construction site etc... but my kid see me today behind a desk with a nice plushy chair.

to be fair to the kids, the job market has changed significantly that the old methods of "git gud" doesnt really work.

its kinda wrong to think that the market of generations past, is equal to the market of generations now or the future.

Cushy job isn't enough anymore.. Job wages have stagnated since early 00.. meanwhile, inflation keeps rising at least 3-4% year on year..

Now you need to be in highly specialised roles, subject matter experts, executive position, successful business club, & exclusive club in order to succeed in todays age..

being average is no longer good enough. You must excel and be excellent at what you do. This is the new competition facing my generation & the next generations..

Boomers had it way easier..

Thats the problem.

I was raised with the idea that the world isnt fair, no one owe me a living, if I want somehting, i have to fight and struggle for it.

The current generation, demand for equality, fairness, "to be fair to the kids".

Resources is finite, to have more, someone else have to have less..

Ofcourse, used to be you get a degree and its a big thing, doors open.

Today a degree is like SPM, every TomDickHarry has it. So you need an edge. Pretty sure ivy league graduates are still making way above the degree mill graduates. I still have friends kids who manage to get into Management Program with large banks, thats like a fasttrack to $$$... 6 months in each region, golf membership, 5 digit salary etc and thats only 2 year into their job.

ok boomer.

Millenials deserve to get that Manager job with a fresh degree and hit 20k within 2 years. Otherwise how can they afford to follow up with their FB friends who go on vacation daily?

Just imagine you have 400 friends on FB, if each of them go on vacation ONCE a year, you will have a daily post of someone on vacation in exotic location.... suddenly ALL your friends are ALWAYS on vacation..
*
Yeah man. That social media thing is a PITA!

Almost every month, I am bombarded by someone who go to some exotic location, who bought new car, went to new expensive restaurant, buy some brand new handbag, or shit like that.

It makes me look at my 18 year old kereta perang, and at my once a year holiday, and at the home-cooked food I eat almost 7 days a week, and at my cheap backpack, and I then shed tears.... sad.gif

Just 3 months ago, someone on my feed bought a new Cayenne and was flashing the keys on social media. I felt so small and inadequate after seeing that post.... cry.gif

With property prices inflated like crazy but salary remaining stagnant for the past 10 years or so, it's no wonder fresh grads are struggling. Ain't rocket science. Penang property went up 30-40% on average, some even 2x-3x over past 10 years.

thats your personal mentality, im talking about market changes and values

its factually proven that mentality doesnt move people out of a certain social class, nor does hard work most of the time. so while i can agree that one needs to hustle, i do understand that the results form this hustle differ.

also each generation argues that "they are tougher" but the economic realities of that generation differ from the ones before and the ones after.

Boomer rich because there are less competition after many died in WW2.

So millennials, to be rich your have to destroy your competition.

The one thing millennial can really do is to learn about finance and economy. Prepare for the looming recession and take advantage of it

Rather than just going YOLO with their money

So much global uncertainty lately. Feds printing more money, countries already showing minimal GDP growth, interest rate cut and now got the wushu virus

Only thing going up is gold

yup, the only problem I have is todays education has not upgrade along with the society requirement.

Back in the days you get decent job with just 12yrs of education(out to work by 18yrs old), now you need extra 4-5 years to get the same thing. I still remember I was wasting my time in school because they are teaching me rubbish that are useless in scoiety and teacher are missing 30% of the time. And I am not rich enough for private education, not smart enough be special genius kid.

I kinda wish the our gov revise education make SPM done by Age 13, Degree completed by age 18. Go back to where we were, 12years of education for most forks.
