The Novel Coronavirus is the topic of table talks during the 2020 Chinese New Year dinners. Since then, I have decided to share a bit of information and preventive tips that you can take. The virus has not been confirmed to be airborne however, it is spread through contact of bodily fluids. On top of the facial masks, it is also helpful to take up good hygiene practices such as washing your hands more often or having a hand sanitiser in hand.

Hi Guys,

I know is a stupid question but im kind of stuck in between to make a decision.
Due to the recent corona virus outbreak and I have an upcoming traveling holiday with my wife and 1 yo daughter to JAPAN next month. The best part, my wife is in early pregnancy stage. So should i proceed with the plan or abandonment the trip and of course high chances i don't get back my refund (air ticket & hotels). As i did consult others (friends and family) but answer are 50/50.

Maybe any doctor in this thread can advise me?

it really all depends on you. if you're scared and dont mind losing the money then cancel. its up to you to make a decision instead of listening to others because no one knows what will happen in the future.

Hi, I found this interview that asked similar question to what you are asking (risk to pregnancy). the professors answered the following;
Q: How does the virus affect pregnant women and will it be transmitted to the unborn child?

Prof Wang: It is not known yet.

Prof Gray: Unknown, but pregnant women are often at increased risk of respiratory infections.

Asst Prof Anderson: Currently there is not enough information available to determine if there is maternal transmission to the unborn child.

A pregnant woman may develop more severe disease as they are immunocompromised and are more susceptible to complications of respiratory infections.

Additionally, Currently Japan has 20 confirmed cases and 0 deaths and 1 cured of the virus. (as at 1600hrs The Edge). Hope this information helps you to make a decision.

The flight carrying Malaysians and non citizen family members from Wuhan has arrived in KLIA this morning where the passengers are being screened at the Air Disaster Unit in KLIA itself. According to The Star, passengers who show symptoms will be sent to the hospital immediately while others who don't will be sent to a monitoring centre.

Globally, there are 20,676 confirmed cases of infected victims, 680 cured cases (Source The Edge) and 427 deaths. Based on the interview conducted by Channel News Asia, the virus is highly treatable and has a low mortality rate which makes recovery likely.
