Off topic but related.
I did two times car transfer ownership last year. (for two cars) 1. manual way, as in doing the transfer at JPJ counter. Road tax was reset by JPJ officer. 2. mysikap online. Road tax was NOT reset. Asked the new owner to request JPJ to reset the roadtax and was told it's not possible. Wtfbbq JPJ.. |

Can I know what does reset means? Either you cancel existing roadtax then buy new or re-use existing.
If you cancel existing, remaining roadtax amount will be refunded to owner. |

QUOTE(fantasy1989 @ Jan 22 2020, 03:13 PM) something like this..since he said it will burn if i decided to "restart" the road tax during ownership transfer yes if transfer ownership road tax will auto cancelled.i will replace with 6 month road tax..then after that (close to July 2020) ..i can renew 1 year road tax together with insurance So if u planning to sell ur car u can renew 6 months. Insurance also can renew 6 months but will be slightly more expensive compared to full year. However difference is insurance u can cancel and get refund pro-rated so its safe to buy whole year. Anyway road tax not expensive lah.... RM80 for 1.6L and below. |

If transfer ownership will auto cancel (in the system) although the physical road tax still showing 1 year.If you cancel existing, remaining roadtax amount will be refunded to owner. If police check in system sure will know its cancelled. |

Let's say the roadtax expiry is 9 Jun 2020. When I go change ownership at JPJ, the office ask me whether I want to re-use the roadtax or renew. If re-use I do not need to pay anything extra. No need to pay additional roadtax. Expiry is maintain at 9 Jun 2020. Even brought the roadtax and show the JPJ he didn't take back the road tax. Can re-use back the same roadtax. Did this for 4 cars that I bought and sold last year.If police check in system sure will know its cancelled. Also, I just made a search at JPJ - https://www.jpj.gov.my/en/web/main-site/sem...ikh-luput-lesen The roadtax expiry is the same as the old roadtax that I re-use from previous owner. QUOTE(WaCKy-Angel @ Jan 22 2020, 04:27 PM) something like if previous owner road tax is 6 Jun 2020 ..then Jan 2020 i buy car from him and purchase 1 year insurance starting from Jan 2020. You can choose to continue current owner road tax - which is until 6 Jun 2020 ; But your insurance will be valid until Jan 2021 instead of "resetting" the road tax from Jan 2020 until Jan 2021 (which is aligned to insurance) This post has been edited by fantasy1989: Jan 22 2020, 06:09 PM |

Different opinions/experiences on this thread showed how JPJ don't even have an SOP on roadtax continuity during name transfer..some roadtax is auto canceled, some compulsory have to continue, some can choose..
All depends on the branch I guess then. |
