PART 3: THE 4 PILLARS OF DESTINY
This is where the fun begins. Let me start with this ancient Chinese saying (in order of influence to your life):
一命二运三风水
四积功德五读书
六名七相八敬神
九交贵人十养生
十一择业与择偶
十二趋吉要避凶
Translation:
Yī mìng èr yùn sān fēngshuǐ
1. DESTINY (this is "imprinted" to you the moment you are born. NOTE: IMPRINTED only means it's residing within you, but to ACTIVATE the effects it's totally up to your actions! Go back and read Part 2 if you need explanation.)
2. LUCK (this changes based on time, 10-year cycle, yearly, monthly, daily, etc)
3. FENG SHUI (this changes based on location)
Ever heard of people saying "he was there at the right time and the right place"? or everything is bound to time and space?
The first 3 verses are basically about yourself, yourself at different times, and yourself at different places.
sì jī gōngdé wǔ dúshū
4. MERIT (your kindness/contribution to others and society, basically karma)
5. EDUCATION (knowledge, the more you learn, the more problems you can solve, the more opportunities become accessible to you)
The 4th and 5th verses are about your actions in making a difference in the life of others and yourself.
liù míng qī xiāng bā jìngshén
6. FAMILY BACKGROUND (it says 'name', which in old times it means your nobility)
7. APPEARANCE (your face, physical attributes and how you present yourself)
8. RESPECT GODS (believe in powers beyond us in the universe)
The 6th to 8th verses are about reputation and perception.
jiǔ jiāo guìrén shí yǎngshēng
9. NETWORK WITH NOBLE PEOPLE (people who can help improve your life, give you more opportunities)
10. HEALTH (ranked at 10 doesn't mean it's not important, as long as health is always at the back of your mind instead of totally ignore it, you should do ok)
The 9th and 10th are about keeping healthy acquaintances/friends, as well as keeping yourself healthy.
shíyī zéyè yǔ zé'ǒu
11. CAREER & PARTNER (career and partner choices are aplenty if you are a well-developed individual)
The 11th verse is self-explanatory.
shí'èr qū jí yào bì xiōng
12. ATTRACTING LUCK & AVOIDING HARM (basically making conscious, educated choices)
The last verse is about your various choices and decisions as you navigate through life.
So, as you can see, DESTINY ranks as the most influential aspect of your life, your life's BLUEPRINT if you will, which is fixed on you based on the exact moment you are born. This is called BaZi (eight characters), and since a BaZi chart is plotted based on YEAR, MONTH, DAY and HOUR, the chart looks like 4 pillars side by side, and therefore it's called the 4 PILLARS OF DESTINY. It's made up of Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches so you have a total of 8 (main) characters on the chart.
The 10 Heavenly Stems:
甲 jia
乙 yi
丙 bing
丁 ding
戊 wu
己 ji
庚 geng
辛 xin
壬 ren
癸 gui
The 12 Earthly Branches:
子 zi
丑 chou
寅 xin
卯 mao
辰 chen
巳 si
午 wu
未 wei
申 shen
酉 you
戌 xu
亥 hai
Each year, month, day and hour has a corresponding pair of a Heavenly Stem + an Earthly Branch. For example, 甲 jia 子 zi, that is the first pair. But since there are only 10 HS but 12 EB, the 11th HS will pair with the 11th EB, so on and so forth, until the cycle is repeated from 甲子 again. This takes 60 pairs, which made up the Sexagenary Cycle.
So each pair has its own characteristic, and each person has a combination of 4 pairs in his/her BaZi (13 possibilties in hour pillar (yes 13), 60 possibilities in day pillar, 12 possibilities in month pillar and 60 possibilities in year pillar), this means the unique combinations can reach up to
561,600 sets, and since it's interpreted differently based on your gender, that makes for 1,123,200 unique BaZi.
Now you may be thinking, since there are 7.8 billion people on Earth, aren't there about 7,000 people on average sharing the exact same BaZi? You can say so, but remember the 12 influences in life stated earlier? Even if 7,000 people have the same DESTINY imprint, their life is also influenced by all the other factors, such as where he/she is born, to which parents (parents BaZi can affect children!), and many more factors, especially his/her actions. That's why every person is unique.
To begin charting your 4 PILLARS OF DESTINY, go to https://bazi-calculator.com/ and key in your birthday details. If you are born in Malaysia, put in +8 time zone obviously, then for longitude just google search your city of birth longitude and copy paste the number without the degree symbol (longitude is the second number when google shows you the result, the first is latitude). Uncheck the box to the right saying 'Date to compare'. Now keep scrolling down, halfway through you will see a PRINT button. Print the chart and save as PDF, and keep it for your reference.
Once you have your chart, for the moment, just pay attention to this part:
Notice it has 4 vertical pillars, and 8 main (chinese) characters? This is what 'Ba Zi' literally means (eight characters).
Pillar from RIGHT to LEFT:
• YEAR PILLAR = This represents your youth (age 1-16), grandparents, and public network (friends/acquaintances). The animal zodiac that people commonly identify with, also resides here.
• MONTH PILLAR = This is a very important pillar as it represents important aspects of your life, age 17-35, your parents, your boss, your siblings and peers/colleagues.
• DAY PILLAR = This pillar also houses your DAY MASTER, which is the key to read all the interactions within your BaZi. It represents age 36-60, your spouse, your house, and most importantly, your true self.
• HOUR PILLAR = The hour pillar represents your future, your legacy, your dream. It represents age 60 and beyond, and mostly long-term stuffs like your offspring, your students, your investments, your inner mind, desire and aspiration.
If you have been paying attention, you will see there are not 1, but 4 animal zodiacs in your BaZi (one in each pillar). That's right. Even with just the Rat, there are Geng Zi 庚子 Metal Rat, Wu Zi 戊子 Earth Rat, Bing Zi 丙子 Fire Rat, Jia Zi 甲子 and Ren Zi 壬子 Water Rat. So if you are Rat sign, which Rat are you? We can't just read the yearly CNY prediction and conclude our luck from there. There are also 10 types of Day Masters which determine the interaction flow of your animal zodiac, that makes 5 Rats x 10 Daymasters = 50 different combinations. Your birth month also determines the seasonality and intensity of your chart, and there are 4 seasons, so it makes 4 x 50 = 200 combinations. By now you should understand how different each person is, and the yearly animal sign is not a "one size fits all" solution.
Next we take a look at the 5 elements and their interactions with each other.
As you can see, each element has an interaction with every other elements, whether it's generating, generated by, controlling or controlled by. All these interactions form a balance. Balance is how matters exist, how we exist. Earth can support life because it has just the right balance of temperature, water, air, etc. Our planet, the Sun, moon and the galaxy have just the right balance so everything stay in orbit and hopefully not crashing onto one another.
Now, remember the 10 Heavenly Stems and 12 Earthly Branches? All of them have elements too, and each element has a 'Stronger' version, and a 'Lighter' version, which made up the Yin and Yang (the balance).
(lighter hue = Yin version)
Grey = Metal
Green = Wood
Blue = Water
Red = Fire
Brown = Earth
The 10 Heavenly Stem elements and polarity
The 12 Earthly Branch elements and polarity
If you refer back to your chart, you will see this section:
This is your 5 STRUCTURE. In this example, 'Parallel (DM)' is used because the DayMaster is Water element. For the sake of simplicity, let's refer this as Water first. As you can see there are 5 elements in the example, defined by the colors I mentioned earlier. The 5 structures as defined by the elements are:
Metal = Resource (Thinker)
Wood = Output (Creator)
Water = Companion (Connector)
Fire = Wealth (Manager)
Earth = Influence (Supporter)
The one with the highest number is your MAIN STRUCTURE. Remember this.
Now look at another section in your chart, which shows the strength of your 10 Gods.
On this section you can also see the strength of your 5 structures. Similar to the 5 structures, the one with the highest number in 10 Gods is your MAIN PROFILE.
10 Gods/10 Profiles are represented by the 10 Heavenly Stems:
甲 jia = Rob Wealth, RW (The Leader)
乙 yi = Direct Officer, DO (The Diplomat)
丙 bing = Eating God, EG (The Artist)
丁 ding = Indirect Wealth, IW (The Pioneer)
戊 wu = Direct Resource, DR (The Analyzer)
己 ji = Friend, F (The Friend)
庚 geng = Seven Killing, 7K (The Warrior)
辛 xin = Hurting Officer, HO (The Performer)
壬 ren = Direct Wealth, DW (The Director)
癸 gui = Indirect Resource, IR (The Philosopher)
So there we have it, now you should know your
1. DAY MASTER (the top part of your Day Pillar)
This is the BASE PERSONALITY of yourself. If you're a game character, these are your STATS.

2. MAIN STRUCTURE (the strongest element of your 5 Structures)
This is how you THINK and ACT. If you're a game character, these are your PASSIVE ABILITIES.

3. MAIN PROFILE (the strongest element of your 10 Gods)
This is your TALENT or SKILL. If you're a game character, these are your SKILLS, and ULTIMATE SKILL is here.
