Dear all sifu,

Recently i am doing survey on proposal diamond ring (white good). I found that have 3 types of ring
1.) Ring with GIA certificate
2.) Ring with diamond shop in house certificate
3.) Ring without certificate

Here is my few question
1.) It is true the ring with certificate is so important?
2.) If i buy ring without certificate it is very likely the diamond spec show by the shop will be not accurate and also high chance will be get cheated by the shop?
2.) If i buy ring without certificate from reputable shop such as Wah chan or lazo diamond? It is more safe?

My budget is tight only around 2.5k. I really hope all sifu can give me advice. If certificate is really that important i will go for it. Thank you.

Buying a diamond with reputable cert is highly recommended. There are cases whereby a diamond is few grades away from what would other reputable labs grade it.

Alternatively, I know that The Gem Tribe can source diamond without cert based on her own expertise. She is a GIA certified gemologist.

Perhaps you can also try Lavin New York. I cannot say how good their diamonds are buy they are certainly GIA graded. Their price are cheap. Google them.

Best to get the cert. Size, clarity shape and the details.

From own experience, 2.5k you might get a smaller diamond ring, if your missus doesn't mind the size/shape/appearance.

Get the finger size too.

Buy Gia certified.

Wah Chan in 1u sell at reasonable price. I bought mine there.
Their price can fight their hq in pj one.

Btw diamonds spec is random. So you may have tu start finding earlier because price and spec may not be what u want at the moment. Have to wait for their next batch

Sifu kambingkoh,
what about forevermark cert, is it ok? compare to GIA cert from WC, is it ok?
bc i read from google, some article from US mentioned forevermark cert is biased bc they grade their own diamond.
unline GIA cert which is more objective.

First of all, anything online, take it with a pinch of salt, including mine. It is wise to consume and analyse what makes sense to you, and what not. After a few years looking at diamonds, I think different people has different preferences. Some prefer brand, while some prefer value. But it is always good to go online to research abit. smile.gif

Anyway, you have asked the same question at the other thread, i have answered you there.

Yes & No, you dont really need a certificate for the ring. Size is always the most important, colour / clarity all those not so. You cant tell a difference with your naked eyes. Unless you're intending to sell the ring in the future thn yes the certification is important, otherwise i see no use of the certification.

If i were to buy another diamond ring for my wife, i will definitely go for lab grown diamonds / diamonds without cert. But way bigger in size and custom it to my liking. Thats just me though.

Hi, sorry to jump in, just wanna tumpang tanya,

Has anyone had experience buying lab grown diamond, from my research it seems to be priced below actual diamonds, yet have the same qualities.

My lady is fine with lab grown, but ironically i am not convinced 😅

Are there any reputable jewellers in Malaysia that carry lab grown diamonds?

Thanks everyone for your reply.

It is basically diamond. Same thing, just from lab, not from earth. The main argue point is the "history" of the diamond that makes it meaningful, some value it, so don't bother, so it is up to individual.

Lab grown can be found at Love & Co, Gordon Max, Ministry of Diamond. Just google them.

If your lady is fine, then why not?

Thank you for your reply.

I did look through some articles and examples, but some mentioned it does not come with certifications. My only concern is that we might be not be getting a 'real' diamond wihtout those certificates to verify.

I am rather confident that you will get a real diamond despite no certification. Just that what they claim may not be what it is when it comes to 4Cs.

Or you can check out online like BrilliantEarth. if my memory serves me well, one of the forumers actually bought from them. I think their diamonds come with IGI cert (not too sure).

I gave my wife an engagement rings with a diamond and everything was successful. A quality diamond and a white gold ring, the design is simple and very beautiful at a price of $1907. My wife was delighted. The main thing is to find a good jewelry store where you will not be deceived.

To me, it's a lot cheaper to buy a ring with moissanite. This gem is almost impossible to distinguish from a diamond, it shines much brighter and is cheaper than a diamond. Of course, you will not have a gem that can be sold as an investment, but you save a lot of money in the first place (and weddings are expensive in their own). Together with moissanite you also get all the proper certificates, so it is safe to buy them and there is a huge selection of rings with this gem.
