Um, so my study table is in the corner of my house (second storey) , my Wi-Fi router is in the first storey. The Wi-Fi signal is pretty bad, can't load youtube videos properly, huge lag during gaming sessions etc. The Wi-Fi router I'm currently using is the one provided by Unifi.

Question is, should I buy a new router or to buy a Wi-Fi booster? If so, which kind?

Is your broadband shared by many heavy users?
If you answer is yes, then getting new router or WIFI repeater will not help.

If your broadband shared by just only few light users?
Then check your devices WIFI signal bars.
If you only get like 1 or 2 signal bars, yes getting those above might help.

The WiFi signal at my room is just poor, sometimes the Wifi will auto disconnect and I have to manually reconnect or wait the device to reconnect

1. Suspected wifi issue due to low signal or congestion.
a. Install wifi signal strength check to test your wifi signal.
a-1 If confirmed wifi signal is not strong, I suggest you do WiFi mesh.

b. If you suspected congestion, then you need get more MIMO router, e.g. 4x4.

The best solution would be another router to serve 1st floor and connect it to the router downstairs using LAN cable. Otherwise use, mesh router.

If coverage is your main concern, you can consider mesh routers.

no, wifi booster won't help much. Buy a set of mesh devices.

Put a second router or wifi repeater in the room above your room. Link that second router to the main router, either via cable or wireless.

If you want the best connection speed and no lag, consider homeplug or direct connection, 2.4GHz wifi is very slow due to a lot interference.
5GHz will be weaken by wall and best can do is 8m~ with line of sight.

I have AC68U and there's no wifi in my bed room lol
