GEORGE TOWN: The opposition will scrap GST and toll collections on the North-South Expressway (PLUS) and the first Penang bridge if it takes over Putrajaya, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said yesterday.

He said Pakatan Harapan, if given the chance to control the federal government, would undertake both measures to ease the people’s financial burden.

Guan Eng said the 6% GST had contributed to higher living cost for the people, instead of “saving Malaysia” as Prime Minister Najib Razak had claimed.

He also said people should not have to keep paying toll on PLUS, which had cost RM5.9 billion to build, since the concessionaire had already collected toll worth RM37.4 billion over the past three decades.

What makes you think the GST is more transparent than SST. GST also refund money get stuck. At each point of GST need to keep track. Govt also need to collect and them refund. More paperwork for me.

GST probably try to prevent merchant avoiding tax, but many don't give receipt or privide unofficial receipt to end consumers which will not be declared

Assuming a cost of capital of 10% per annum, which is normal during that time in 1980's, in 40 years time, that RM6 billion is worth RM247 billion right now.

saying "i build for 6 billion and collect 38 billion" says absolutely nothing about the IRR of the company nor the NPV.

But i do know for sure, given the risks of building a highway, they need to collect RM250 billion +++ of PRESENT VALUE MONEY to even break even on the investment

of course there is cost of debt, grants and shit. but stop giving this uneducated unpresent valued calculations man.... its super super annoying. If a RM6 billion highway only collects RM38 billion until right now, that highway is absolute trash in IRR and only an idiot would have build it given all the risks they have to take.
