Dog is najis (impure), not haram per se.

If you come in contact (particularly the saliva-there's scholarly debate of course), just need to sertu/purify yourself. Being in contact with a dog is not sinful (haram) in and of itself.

On the other hand, touching non-mahram is haram therefore sinful. But not najis/impure.
