The discontinuation of EEV alone will result in small increase in prices, but nothing significant enough to stall car sales.

The second point, the revision of OMV however, will do just that. Prices are expected to go up by at least 15 percent more. If you are buying a RM 100,000 car, expect to pay at least RM 15,000 more.

Ministry of Finance has changed the definition of OMV, which will now include many other items that were previously not taxed - distributor’s margins and royalty payments (for intellectual property) for example.

In other words, the government wants to squeeze out more tax money from cars.

To be clear, the government has yet to confirm anything, as many car companies are protesting against the move. Discussions behind closed doors are still on-going.

Dude it's already on the news, gov already sent out the latest tax rate. You can ask around all 2020 cars are on hold.

“With the excise duty gazette released on Dec 31, completely-knocked-down (CKD) vehicles will most likely be liable to pay more taxes. We are still analysing the impact, ” he told StarBiz.

PH Govn keep announcing something and u turn after, this is very unhealthy to the country's economy and FDI.

who would want to come to a country that is not consistent on their policies?

If you look at Thailand, although their government changed, their policies are consistent. Their Car Policy - Eco-car and so on is always consistent, incentives too.... that's how they entice people to invest there.

MY government on the other hand - not consistent on almost every policy....... Toll (Plus Highway), black shoe implemented now want to re-visit, etc....... ranting.gif ranting.gif ranting.gif

I think they are pretty firmed this round as you know who hates foreign cars the most. Some more our 3rd national car otw, without introducing higher tax, surely nobody will support.

They need to do it now so it won't look so obvious that they are protecting the 3rd national car.

Ideally, yes, these can reduce the number of cars on the road..

Tapi yang kena are the average rakyat... 😭

There are ppl who never have to bear all these cost personally. Petrol, parking and toll expenses can claim back from company...
So these ppl would not be affected at all. They'll continue to jam up the roads.

The key is public transportation, public transportation not only provide the convenient at a cheaper price, it also create big revenues and job, but I don’t know why our gov look the others way.
