There's always option to not take contract. Just you have to pay more upfront. Normally contract you get the devices free, so its not that bad a deal, personally i prefer not to have contract as it gives you more leeway to change plan if needed.

For example my unifi was down recently and the CS asked me to choose an option to replace my equipment.

I told them you haven't determined the cause or troubleshoot the issue already you asking me to choose an option.

In the end turns out it was TM's fault and I didn't have to pay anything.

but point is if i needed to change, the option is there and you are not put in a corner.
