On a serious note. Houses in HCM is more expensive than Malaysia. And their english is....a lot to be desired.

Only if you plan to retire in some ulu place in vietnam. Marry a vietbui and buy some land and build your own house.

As a foreigner, it is not easy to buy a house. At best, you can only lease a unit/land. And only with designated developments. I heard there are loopholes here and there, but have not explored that in detail. you might be able to register a company and use that to buy property.
Don't even imagine retiring in the major cities. it is expensive....very expensive. Cost of living in Saigon and Hanoi, is just as high as KL.

But as a country, they are moving full speed ahead. If you can manage some form of a business there, it is definitely a good move.
And yes, be careful who you trust. Vietnamese can be very two faced. Tell you one thing, do something completely opposite. Unless you have spent significant time there and know their way of doing things, be very careful. That said, i know plenty of malaysians  who have moved there, permanently, and they enjoy their life there. Usually the maaysians work as factory managers, consultants and sales people for Vietnamese JV companies due to our vast language capability.

Housing depends where you buy. I have an apartment and house in D2 prices ok compared to KL. 1000sqf apartment goes about 900k-1.1 mil. I just went for a medical checkup yesterday and it costs 30% more than Gleneagles. Local healthcare might be cheap but one of the few times I went to a local hospital reminded me of a Vietnam war movie with beds in the corridor so no it’s not cheap for foreigners.

Hmm, a unit at Saigon Royal Residences is minimum rm700k for a 550sqft unit.. the smallest.. so it really depends...

Nola ... If you're interested to invest my friend selling land in a neighbouring town.. one hour drive from Saigon.. 1075sqft.. VND 1 billion asking price..
