It is better to be conned by a smarter person.

Here you will lose without being conned, if you get what I mean

Only if you plan to retire in some ulu place in vietnam. Marry a vietbui and buy some land and build your own house.

As a foreigner, it is not easy to buy a house. At best, you can only lease a unit/land. And only with designated developments. I heard there are loopholes here and there, but have not explored that in detail. you might be able to register a company and use that to buy property.

Don't even imagine retiring in the major cities. it is expensive....very expensive. Cost of living in Saigon and Hanoi, is just as high as KL.

But as a country, they are moving full speed ahead. If you can manage some form of a business there, it is definitely a good move.

And yes, be careful who you trust. Vietnamese can be very two faced. Tell you one thing, do something completely opposite. Unless you have spent significant time there and know their way of doing things, be very careful. That said, i know plenty of malaysians who have moved there, permanently, and they enjoy their life there. Usually the maaysians work as factory managers, consultants and sales people for Vietnamese JV companies due to our vast language capability.

looks like you are already on the right track. Good luck.

Malaysian's being Malaysians, irregardless of where they stay, you can expect good Malaysian hospitality. So take advise from them that have stayed there for a long time.

Then you should know the issues of the housing price which ppl think it's cheap but its not. Also the language.

So if you feel these two are not a hindrance (it is to me) then by all means go...

LOL. When was the last time you went there???

When you can afford to buy a Mercedes there, you can afford a driver.

I just hire a driver and car to drive me around most of the time. Only cost about 700k to 1m per day. Cheaper than taxi if you need to travel longer distance.

I think i already been the whole area in vietnam, including the rural place.
Their jalan expecially in rural place, even drive moto u will not feel comfortable.
In city, the whole place is full with motorist, only small space for car.

Its not about hiring the driver, its about personal drive.
I love car, own few sport car, i love to modify..

And vietnam is not the best place for that kind of hobby

Housing depends where you buy. I have an apartment and house in D2 prices ok compared to KL. 1000sqf apartment goes about 900k-1.1 mil. I just went for a medical checkup yesterday and it costs 30% more than Gleneagles. Local healthcare might be cheap but one of the few times I went to a local hospital reminded me of a Vietnam war movie with beds in the corridor so no it’s not cheap for foreigners.

Hmm, a unit at Saigon Royal Residences is minimum rm700k for a 550sqft unit.. the smallest.. so it really depends...

I stayed for almost 5 years at an apartment in D1 which is nearby there. It’s not nice at all for someone with a family. D7 or D2 are the best for expats in my opinion. Staying in D1 or very close to it is mostly good if you’re by yourself otherwise it’s like living in the heart of KL. Why would anyone want that?

Around that area where Saigon royal residences is you can find a 1k sqf apartment like Icon 56 which is pretty decent and costs about a mil.

retiring in Malaysia is better, especially for someone who is older. Malaysia hardly move/change besides new constructions only. We are still behaving like it is the 1980s.

consistency is comforting, especially for retirees
