They're on the tropic of cancer and it's still "winter" in the northern hemisphere.

Furthermore, it's in the Dahr Mountain region, not far from Tabuk, where the snow line is even lower.

There's nothing particularly special about this for anyone with decent geographical knowledge.

Wake me up when it's snowing in the equator at sea level.
