40 anggota bomba berlepas ke Australia Rabu ini bantu padam kebakaran

TAIPING, 13 Jan – Seramai 40 anggota Jabatan Bomba dan Penyelamat Malaysia (JBPM) yang ditugaskan membantu memadam kebakaran hutan di Australia dijangka bertolak ke negara itu pada Rabu ini.

Menteri Perumahan dan Kerajaan Tempatan Zuraida Kamaruddin berkata kesemua anggota berkenaan bersama 20 lagi individu daripada agensi kerajaan yang lain akan dihantar ke lokasi kebakaran di New South Wales.

“Kami tidak menghantar aset tetapi bantuan anggota kerana mereka memerlukan bantuan dari segi tenaga kerja untuk mengawal api supaya tidak merebak.

“JBPM juga akan memberi khidmat nasihat berdasarkan kepakaran dan pengalaman bersama pasukan penyelamat Australia agar dapat mengawal api,” katanya kepada pemberita selepas melawat Pembangunan Menaik Taraf Jeti Kuala Sepetang, Daerah Larut, Matang dan Selama di sini hari ini.

Bagaimanapun, Zuraida berkata tempoh masa semua anggota berkenaan berada di negara itu belum diketahui setakat ini.

7 Jan lepas, Ketua Pengarah JBPM Datuk Mohammad Hamdan Wahid dilaporkan berkata seramai 40 anggota dikenal pasti bagi menyertai bantuan itu selepas pihaknya mengadakan mesyuarat penyelarasan bersama Agensi Pengurusan Bencana Negara (Nadma).

Menurut laporan media, sekurang-kurangnya 24 orang terbunuh dan hampir 2,000 rumah musnah serta jutaan haiwan terkorban apabila kebakaran hutan itu telah memusnahkan tiga negeri di Australia melibatkan kebakaran kira-kira lima juta hektar tanah.

Sementara itu, Zuraida berkata kerja-kerja naik taraf Jeti Kuala Sepetang melibatkan peruntukan RM2 juta supaya lebih moden dan selesa termasuk menyediakan kemudahan tandas serta tempat letak kereta lebih teratur, disasarkan siap hujung tahun ini.

Selain itu, beliau berkata pihaknya bercadang untuk mewujudkan tarikan baharu seperti floating market atau pasar terapung iaitu bot-bot yang menjual makanan dan produk hasil sungai di persisiran sungai hutan paya laut di jeti berkenaan.

“Kami akan memulakan floating market dalam skala kecil dahulu untuk pelancong yang menaiki bot mengelilingi kawasan sungai ini selama kira-kira sejam untuk singgah dan menikmati pemandangan,” katanya.

Katanya pelancong juga tidak dibenarkan membawa makanan sendiri untuk burung helang di kawasan sungai tetapi sebaliknya hanya menggunakan makanan helang yang disediakan oleh pemandu pelancong bagi mengelakkan pembiakan helang terbantut.

Pada majlis itu, Zuraida turut menyumbangkan 10 mikrofon kepada pemandu pelancong di jeti berkenaan supaya memudahkan mereka menyampaikan taklimat dan penerangan mengenai sejarah dan tempat menarik kepada penumpang bot ketika meronda di sekeliling kawasan sungai itu. – Bernama

theyre not asked. they sendiri go volunteer.

i think it will be a good experience for our bomba. go learn new things. and who knows, they prolly know something that other bomba there dont know?

beside, most bomba in aus that currently extinguishing the fire are volunteer bomba.

Malaysia (and Singapore for that matter) have routinely sent firefighters to help Indonesia during the burning seasons lah. So there are a few who have experience dealing with large fires, however peat-fires and bush-fires may be somewhat different.

In any case its a good idea.

I wonder if maybe we should train some of our military reserves to assist also, its useful since this forest fire is a problem that occurs locally.
