Intel takes popular laptops to 'extreme' with first-ever Extreme edition mobile processor

The Intel Core 2 Extreme X7800 mobile dual-core processor, with both cores running at a brisk 2.6 GHz, also features mobile-specific power-saving features that help Intel's computer-maker customers deliver more energy-efficient and higher-performing designs. For example, the Intel Core 2 Extreme mobile processor X7800 offers up to 28 percent more performance2 than our previous-generation mobile processor. In addition, for experienced enthusiasts who desire more capability, the Intel Core 2 Extreme mobile processor bus ratio locks (overspeed protection) have been removed3. This offers added technical flexibility in customizing the system so OEMs can unleash even more performance.

i still dun see why intel is trying to confuse ppl with so many offerings

AFAIK, someone has put a QX6800 quad core into a laptop chassis (not so mobile though) and they did it.

and why intel is trying to label something that is sooo power hungry as MOBILE, one will have to guess

anyway, nice piece of info.

As someone whos involved in Video Editing i have always quest for the ultimate mobile video editing laptop. I need it when im on location or when doing work outstation..i guess intel basically doing their jobs and sees the demand of power hungry users who needs powerful mobile workstation.

I guess we will see these processor ported into apple notebooks soon enuff. But im sceptical what kind of cooling needed for these processors..

i would assume the 2.6GHz processor voltage is lower than its desktop same speed counterparts.

There's no diff btw potruded HSF on desktop parts vs "flat" HSF on older chips.
BTW IIRC the laptop chips have no HSF.

It will be K8 based, not K10 based. Griffin.

They do have a HSF, or at least a heatsink for some of the lowest power models (<=5W)
