VW Passat has become china worst scored car in crash test. So lets get down to VW jokes
Keep the tow truck guy no, you will call this guy more often than your mother Keep the mechanic or dealer no closer, you will keep on asking when your car will be out. They are like your wife or gf. To be safe buy 4 VW cars and send them to SC every week for inspection. Visit Workshop |

QUOTE(cockerish @ Jan 11 2020, 09:12 AM) Hmmm that payment...is that for the sort of gimmick vw put last time...after 3 years...the next 2 years under insurance and parts warrant adjustor to endorse ? Something like that. I just bought a 3 that is 1 year old (CBU, director's car, not demo car). So the SA told me if I am worried about the warranty (I am not, I am going in with full intention to be a servant to my debts and car:lol:) I can do that extension. but only after the original 5-year manufacturer warranty is finished. They will do a 72-point inspection of the car, if the car qualifies, we can buy the warranty on an annual basis. Shit goes wrong, they would repair it for us. basically it is just like the original manufacturer warranty as I understand it. Btw, BMW's 5-year warranty is full, not some bullshit 3+2 or 2+3 like some of their competitors - very disingenuous of these competitors (I am not sure which ones though) This post has been edited by wild_card_my: Jan 11 2020, 09:16 AM |

QUOTE(AllnGap @ Jan 11 2020, 09:29 AM) You've got to see what is covered in the warranty, what items are considered as wear and tear. True true. I do not plan to do so anyway - the extended warranty.Anyway if you are okay with burning money might as well lease it. What for burn money through depreciation and expensive maintenance then drive old car ? Every 2-3years change new car no need worry about maintenance and problems. If you can't afford new, reliable cars, then you cannot afford old, unreliable cars. Your solution is simply to downgrade to a new car that is reliable, usually newer cars are more reliable. That car may be of lower "strature", but if you keep an old BMW/Merc that breaks down often, then you are the true definition of a brand snob. I do sales, and I cannot afford being stuck on the side of the road, or to be without a car for extended periods of time. Granted, people will chide me for buying a 3 since I prioritize reliability, but it the pre-registered car still has 4 years and 3 months warranty plus free services that I won't skip over the same period. After that? Likely I will sell it off and buy a new one This post has been edited by wild_card_my: Jan 11 2020, 09:40 AM |

Do the added weight and complexity provide add performance benefits? |

QUOTE(AllnGap @ Jan 11 2020, 10:43 AM) shifts faster, can jump more gears. Hurm why is VW positioning themselves as a performance brand? They should opt for reliability like Toyota. but the downside is the controller which is mechatronic unit becomes a wear and tear part. (rebuild if lucky, if not replace whole unit) I look at their cars like Passat, I think of uncles on Camry I look at their smaller cars, i think of youngsters on Vios They should use normal, reliable Autos for their normal cars, even the Passat Save the DSG on CC and Golf/Polo. This is how Bimmer does it, only the M cars have DSG. I believe F80 M3 uses DSG while F30 used 8AT |

QUOTE(New Klang @ Oct 29 2022, 12:28 PM) depends on type, usage etc. the usual culprit are mechatronic and clutch on the dry clutch version, but those days are long gone in my opinionclutch is wear and tear, but wearing out before 100k is not something i would say acceptable. they are many with wet clutches above 200k doing ok - if you are just driving on highway all the time with minimal gearchange, you will rack up your mileage a lot but not much wear at the gearbox. so "low mileage" can have its bad points This post has been edited by phas3r: Oct 29 2022, 12:31 PM |

QUOTE(New Klang @ Oct 29 2022, 12:31 PM) there are markets for it for sure, sg halfcut cars, buy halfcut accident cars with many usable items left, and sell it, there are many for sale for golf mk6/5 etc, some new parts are expensive, so why waste used good parts that are still workable. |

QUOTE(wild_card_my @ Jan 11 2020, 12:44 PM) Hurm why is VW positioning themselves as a performance brand? They should opt for reliability like Toyota. VW common problem is only their DSG/Mechatronic on the lower end models, rarely seen an issue on their performance models such as the GTI/R series unless u do stage 2 or 3 without properly tuned or cooling system.I look at their cars like Passat, I think of uncles on Camry I look at their smaller cars, i think of youngsters on Vios They should use normal, reliable Autos for their normal cars, even the Passat Save the DSG on CC and Golf/Polo. This is how Bimmer does it, only the M cars have DSG. I believe F80 M3 uses DSG while F30 used 8AT I owned a Golf R before, the most major repair i've done is changing the water pump (2 times) and fuel injectors. I would say its quite reliable car for everyday use. Just keep it stock. |

VW Passat w/ the wet clutch DSG is damn reliable already.
I think Gen DQ381, long gone are the days with DQ2 Gen Dry Clutch. |
