I'm just wondering, how do the electrician/contractor cut the glass hole to install the window exhaust fan.
Do they have to dismantle the whole window and bring it to a glass shop to cut the hole or are they able to cut the hole on the spot?

You can buy diamond glass cutter. It is just like pen with diamond (man-made) at one tip. Draw circle and knock the whole out like you see in movie. You can Google on best advise.

Is it easy to remove the glass by yourself? Have you done it yourself before?

I'm trying to get a feel on whether this thing can DIY or whether I really need to hire someone to do it.

ya i done it and failed. more difficult than i expected.
end up take down the entire window (quite easy actually) and send to glass shop.

you can try first especially if the glass is thin. if fail then send to expert.

ok when you remove the glass, did you remove the "fixed" glass section or the "movable" window glass section if you can understand what I mean.

sliding window or casement window?

if sliding just use screwdriver lower down the roller of the panel piece n pull up then slightly slide bottom abit to take out

If casement windows just open the windows panel,u can c the hinges upper n bottom, unscrew the one on the outer frame n take out

Bring the panel unit to glass shop together with your exhaust fan unit, they will measure n modified the panel to fit your exhaust fan.( Get the square type exhaust fan for fast done, circle type they will have difficulty to cut round shape on glass)
