How much cheaper is it with a US broker?
*
As low as 1 USD per trade. US citizens who use Robinhood get to trade for free.

Of course, as a Malaysian, you have currency conversion fee etc so if add up, it's more or less the same. However, I still believe it's cheaper than what most banks offer in Malaysia.

Thanks, was not aware of this company. Will check it out. Anyone tried Ameritrade or E Trade? I am looking for account that is relatively easy to open (fully online, few days can settle), no inactivity or annual fees, reasonable commission charges, good web and app interface, some learning materials (I am a beginner). The main purpose of the account would be for value investing in US stocks and a bit of index funds. Is IBKR the best option for us Malaysians currently?

Is all dividend gains from US stocks 30% taxed regardless of your online broker service?

Easiest and cheapest is the one I mentioned. There is a thread in Lowyat. https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/4843925
You can even buy European stocks.

US stocks and ETF dividends are taxed at 30% since Malaysia doesn't have tax treaty.
However, you can buy US ETFs domiciled in Ireland and only be subjected to 15% Withholding Tax.

Example: QQQ is US ETF. EQQQ is US ETF denominated in EUR and domiciled in Ireland. QQQ and EQQQ hold the same basket of stocks.

I don't have experience with TDA. TDA is more expensive because of the $25 withdrawal fee.

If yes, may I ask, i placed my BUY order and current status is "F" which stands for Filled Order.

Hi, If we are about to sell a US stock and make USD 100 profit from it, will we be getting the exact USD100 to our account (of course minus the brokerage fee + fee)? Is there any tax deductible in both USA and Malaysia?
