Bank Negara: No need for unconventional monetary policy
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia does not have to resort to an unconventional monetary policy as the country's deep bond market and diverse set of institutional investors are enough in absorbing a higher bond supply, said Bank Negara Malaysia Governor Datuk Nor Shamsiah Mohd Yunus. She said although the Malaysian Government Securities (MGS) are on an increasing trend, the bond market has recorded a healthy bid-to-cover ratio. According to her, Malaysia's large debt market mitigates the need for unnecessary unconventional monetary policies, which suggests that the government does not need to ask the central bank for assistance. https://www.thestar.com.my/business/2020/11...monetary-policy |

Budget 2021 a boon for bond market
![]() PETALING JAYA: Amid fiscal constraints, the Malaysian bond market is poised for growth with higher development expenditure that will support government issuances as investors search for better yields in emerging markets, including Malaysia. RAM Ratings senior economist Woon Khai Jhek (pic below) told StarBiz that given its size and expansionary nature, Budget 2021 is conducive for the growth of the bond market. https://www.thestar.com.my/business/busines...for-bond-market |

Foreign net inflow into bond market soared to RM8b in October, says RAM Ratings
KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 24): The foreign net inflow into the domestic bond market soared to RM8 billion in October, from RM500 million in the immediate preceding month, said RAM Rating Services Bhd (RAM Ratings). In a statement today, the credit rating agency said the bond market had chalked six straight months of net foreign inflows, with the vast improvement shown last month in sharp contrast to uncertainty over the FTSE Russel watch list decision in September which dissuaded investors. "MGS/GII (Malaysian Government Securities/Government Investment Issue) issuances in October continued to be robust at RM14.5 billion with healthy BTCs (bid-to-cover ratios) of close to two times or more. The Asian region will remain attractive in the coming months amid economic recovery prospects, especially in trade performance. https://www.theedgemarkets.com/article/fore...ays-ram-ratings |
