My mom is the kinda person who doesn't like big crowd so we had our early reunion dinner at seafood restaurant. My mom urged to try live tiger grouper i was a bit paranoid why not just order normal tilapia why waste money. But one bite fresh tiger grouper steamed in HK style sauce enough to be speechless.

The place we had was at cheras but according to the staff from last two weeks until cny all premium tables fully booked.

Maybe can try ur luck at normal seafood restaurant, but no high expectation. Thai seafood restaurant can try also. They have many ala carte like pineapple fried rice etc.

Very true. I never had reunion dinner outside since childhood, we all relatives eat during balik kampung. And as for my own family reunion dinner we usually have it outside one or two weeks before cny. Its awkward but at least can eat more peacefully.

Its normal, bcos they think if customers can dine at those premium restaurants then get ready to be slaughtered. Poor cheapskates won't eat there, right?

Some "generous" customers think positively aiya never mind one year once only maa.

The reality is rather sad, its how the community defines whats premium and whats not. Like, some ppl say u must eat abalone and scallop soup only considered the "proper" way of having reunion dinner. Eat premium stuffs to get paid off with hard earned money.

But then some ppl happy with just mushroom and fungus that tastes exactly like abalone texture, so how do we define that?

I also dont like it even we have dinner at kampung, all relatives scrambling and competing to get that piece of sliced abalone. Some upset bcos didn't get one.

Its all the mindset.
