I wasn’t attending a University. It was for my Australian PR application. My Uni IELTS was more than 30 or 35 years ago. I don’t even have that piece of paper anymore. I kept a copy of this 2007 result in my could folder together with the rest of my PR documentation
*
Hnghhhhh nowadays you really need that band 9 for every category for the extra 10 points to get the aussie PR. sweat.gif are you still an aussie PR or no longer holding it anymore. I just got mine granted last month lel.. thinking of which state to go to.... Melbourne has too many pakistani and middle eastern refugees so im gonna skip that place.

Yes, I’m lucky they allowed me to keep my PR despite what, 12 years of not fulfilling the criteria? Then again, we have significant family, cultural and economic ties to Sydney (my preferred state since my family is there) and we have been faithful tax payers (from our business and investment properties) for the entire time we’ve been PRs.
*
Ah nice.. so there are other means to keep the PR status even if you cant stay in Australia. Altho i believe i will most likely just get the citizenship if i like it there.

yes, yes.....the look doesn't look appetizing, hopefully the taste otherwise. The rock melon, tried that once when was in Bangkok, local colleague treat me, initial didn't realised the cost, it really sweet, unlike typical rock melon. But, when told the price  shocking.gif i think better eat local fruits like water melon jer lah, whatever savings, can share with other less fortunate people, i think more happy that way.......sharing happiness smile.gif

those are literally a sea urchin's balls/ovaries laugh.gif if it's really fresh it tastes mildly fishy with aroma of a sea breeze.. but most of the time what we get in Malaysia tastes like bleach. Altho im not a fan of them haha.

Those rock melons are mainly grown to be used as gifts... mainly focusing on the appearance like the size and shape and the webbing pattern on its outer skin... taste wise, maybe a little above average jer... they do grow basic rock melon for everyday consumption at a much affordable price.

Have you stayed in Melbourne? So many suburbs around. Go try and stay there for 1 month before you decide.
*
Yeah.. been there already. Just somehow dont really like that atmosphere in Melbourne... Especially in the city. can pretty much put the blame on the refugees actually as it wasnt this bad a few years ago.

Ayam currently aiming SA or maybe QLD but leaning more towards SA.

If you prefer to stay around the city, then maybe a bit packed
Have a look at Brisbane too. Only 1 hour drive to Gold Coast.
*
yea my amoi studied in Brisbane lel . so already very familiar with that city.. can just take the train to Gold Coast too.. My only complain is that their winter is not cold enough laugh.gif

Owell, I've got a year to procrastinate on the move as well as to tick the checkboxes for the preparations. Jobs that require my technical skills will definitely be in the city but who knows... maybe i wont be doing the same thing anymore.. which i really do hope to have a career switch given the oppurtunity.

Respect. I've got a pretty reasonable command of the language, but didn't even manage an overall 8 (luckily I had enough points elsewhere to scrape through). To get overall 9 is no joke thumbup.gif
*
There's this new computer delivered ielts which may be easier to get overall 9 because the computer judge with more leniency for the contents, but at the same time harder because spelling, grammar and punctuation have to be spot on. It was so strict that i starter my sentences without capital letters and i got 7 for my reading while the rest was 9 sweat.gif did it again to get overall 9...... because those extra points are very needed nowadays for OZ's skilled migration visa. huhuhu

Lunch today...

Our starters - which actually took us aback somewhat. Didn’t expect such huge portions. Beautiful yes, because that’s what the Japanese do: artistry in every aspect. But the amount of food? We always thought only the Americans and the Australians did the XXXL portions!

Yall should go try kiku no i if you going to stop by kyoto. their dishes every single one of them are works of art.

Superior English used to give an extra 20 points. Not sure what the allocation is nowadays
*
yep 20.. band 7 will only give 10... so it is very significant. given that nowadays you need at least 75-80 points now to get invited.

So you need IELTS band 9 for PR in Australia? Interesting
*
10 points vs 20 points difference if band 9. The total accumulation between 65 and 75 points makes a very very big difference since 2017. infact nowadays if you dont score 80 in major fields such as finance, accounting and engineering... your EoI wont even be entertained.

so getting that superior english score is almost a must if you dont have masters/phd or supporting certificates or a long history of employment in a specific field to get your scores competitive.

Also note that they dont give 2 shits about who employed you or whether youre a harvard grad. only the score matters... so there’s a shit loads of useless incompetent yindian with shitty degree mill certs getting approved every minute. Their eligibility criteria is very flawed in this way..

Wow thank you so much for the detailed reply. Do you know where is the correct place to read up more about this? Thanks in advance.

The official homeland affairs website for skill migration is very detailed for the procedures and even showing data to how likely your success rate is with your points to your specific skill nomination and how to calculate your points. you can also check out on expatforum’s threads tagged under australia for more updates and reading up on other applicant’s experience with the process.

You can try https://www.homeaffairs.gov.au/ as a start. But as bonchi rightly said, the points criteria have just been on an exponential trajectory upward since a few years back.

Because I studied in Australia, had full registration to practice in Australia and had my specialist degree awarded in Australia, it was relatively easy for me back in 2007 to get my PR approved - but I still took no chances and attempted the IELTS for the bonus points. In the end, with age, English, qualifications, I believe I scored about 110 points  back in 2007. That was enough for me to get PR back then.

I’m not nearly as sure about it now
*
the sudden spike in score requirement is an understatement nowadays as they’ve even put it on hold. Never before that they would retract the initial invitation until recently... Which happened to me with 75 points (never studied in aussie). it so happened that my fiance’s occupation appeared on the list which gave me an additional 5 points by paying another few thousand for the assessment and i tried applying again and finally got it. So it’s kinda safe to say you’d need at least 80 points to get through now.
