if merida/giant/java/twitter I wouldnt mind, not many counterfeiters bother making those brands. if pinarello bianchi cervelo specialized trek bmc colnago rm4-5k I would ask for receipts.

pinarello pricing damn crazy nowadays, the 2nd tier prince full bike already rm30k+ lol.

How do you fit your road bike into the Grab car?
*
remove front wheel, flip bike wheels up then put rear wheel at passenger foot area, saddle on seat, fork pointing up. basically diagonally

with the rising cases, anybody will out riding ?
*
sure got. I havent been riding for 3 weeks due to injury, but no reason not to ride since I stick to small groups 2-5 riders only

one thing I do is ride from home, ride unpopular routes like federal highway and bukit gasing, from home to federal highway already half an hour, top of bukit gasing in an hour, around that time not many people there already.

Question: how does one go about getting a saddle? Just go into the shop & pray for luck or do they have sample saddle for loan? Asking because I'm fully aware how saddle is one of those very subjective thing which work for some but might not work for others.
*
demo saddles, fizik or specialized, previously treknologi also had demo saddles from astute brand. another way is to do a bike fit with a fitter that has a saddle pressure sensor. vo2max sdn bhd bike fitter has that, can see where on the saddle you concentrate your weight and at what efforts, some people places their weight at different parts of the saddle depending on how many watts they are doing which is quite interesting, so from that data you can find out which type of saddle would suit you.

does fabric have different padding levels or are all the same? specialized saddles have different padding, my power sworks had level ii padding, power comp level iii softer. tried friend's fabric scoop ultimate for a few km, not bad. might consider in the future if I dont like the prologo m5 that came with my bike. done 3k km on it but sometimes ok sometimes torture depending on which bib I wear lol

funny that when we were young.. any saddle seems ok mayb coz sit bone were more narrower easier to find support. was using spez saddles toupe and romin for many years.. recently changed to the short nose saddle and instantly love it.. now using the fizik argo vento r5
*
considered the argo also when my power cracked after hitting pothole, but went with pro stealth instead. when I was young and did mtb the best saddle for my ass was the WTB rocket, and it came in sky blue same as my mtb frame lol. but apparently WTB saddles arent used by roadies so went with roadie saddles

ya.. was grateful just to own a road bike when ur a kid.  no money to spend on anything else.. i remembered i saved for months just to buy a green wired cateye speedometer.. was using a saddle branded Velo.. apparently they are now the biggest oem saddle manufacturer in the world. Frame was scavenged and resprayed with Vitus decals inspired by Sean Kelly.. drilled holes for bottle cages, welded the RD hanger on the dropout.

fuyoh DIY. havent had the pleasure of riding roadbike during steel era, was too short for most frame sizes hahaha. my mtb also was using cateye wired speedometer, then upgraded to one with cadence sensor, damn ugly use cable tie run the wire under top tube follow seat tube to crank haha. then a few years later upgraded to VDO one, felt so canggih got more features. mana tau after that garmin gps and strava rendered all that useless cry.gif

Hello 😀

Newbie reporting in. Just got my first basic road bike during vacation in KL lol. Choices are limited.😅

Started riding solo in Sep last year on 20" bike. Enjoying the fun in building & riding the bike.
*
welcome, have fun, stay safe. Bike choices quite limited, I think friend said emonda sold out til 3rd quarter this year. some brands only have shipment once a year, friend got a lapierre last year, this year even shop dunno when coming it, so his bike is very rare cos only 10 units in Malaysia lol.

end up buying the domane al 2. Fits the budget, and i like the riding position 😃
*
ah nice. trek emonda and domane aluminium frames welding quite smooth, if dont look closely you would think the frame was carbon. and some midrange carbon frame arent much lighter than alu anyways haha. what size tyres are you using for the domane? 28-32mm?

Yeah at a glance it look like a carbon frame lol. For the tyres its the stock bontrager r1 32c iirc.
*
ah ok. wire bead, not the smoothest. once worn out or itchy change to nicer tyres and feel a world of difference haha. first thing I change on bikes are usually tyres, stock ones not as nice lol. but if not used to nice stuff then keep using the r1 until worn out before changing haha. once used to nice tyres there's no turning back

Definitely itching to change the tires lol. Just not sure what size/brand should i choose..
Changed my 20" tires to schwalbe ones & that felt really good.
*
haha habis kena poison already haha. easiest and cheapest way to change how a bike feels is the tyres and tubes. heard latex increases comfort by a lot too, but most latex tubes come with short valve stems and I'm not keen on using extender cos its a potential leak point. and latex tubes for tyres above 28mm not common too.

My current tyres are vittoria corsa 2.0 28mm, found on shopee rm175 each, considered cheap so try la. 320tpi very comfy, not puncturing as often as the corsa 1.0 which I threw away after 6 punctures in 1 month, puncture protection layer seemed non existent. used sworks, pirelli p zero velo, michelin power competition, no complaints. schwalbe one (before pro one) was not bad but didnt have good wet traction, rubino pro, gp4000 sii also used before, I cant say I would recommend lol

I think previously most cyclists are more hardcore, they just love cycling as a sport, are fans of pros, ride harder (even drafting behind lorries). lots of new cyclists join as a way to get more exercise in, not into the racing scene, half of new cyclists ride with their spouses too. that said with training tools like power meters and indoor training apps like zwift being more common, the fast riders are becoming even faster than before. but even more hardcore riders who are fans of pros know the difference between their 250w ftp and pros 400w ftp, too embarrassed to wear pro kit nowadays lol.

QUOTE(rads78 @ Aug 17 2022, 11:10 AM)
I thought the demographic preference of amateur cyclists had changed a lot compared prior to 2 decades before. During the early days of my cycling , its always about what is Marco Pantani is wearing and riding or even Lance Armstrong. You wanna get the same kit and bicycle and try to look as close as possible to those pro cyclists while nowadays, amateur cyclists tend to be more individual from my opinion. At least around my cycling circle (if i still have any), nobody wanna look like Pogacar, Vingegaard or Geraint Thomas. They just ride whatever they feel like and they dress just how they want it. Probably pro cycling is not exciting as it was before
