Refurbish old car. It should give u another 5+ years. In the meantime save up some cash.
When the time comes, buy a new car with the money u saved. Put down a bigger down-payment to reduce interest payments.

Your old car can use as 2nd car.

The idea that new car has better safety features etc is just placebo effect and giving yourself excuse to buy new car.
It depends how u drive. If u drive recklessly, what car u drive also cannot save u. Ppl also die in Ferraris, BMWs, Volvos etc.
