All perodua is Milo tin. I also own a Milo tin kenari so I know.
From the metal sheets to safety features perodua is the worse type.

All of our small mini cars are actually in the "kei car" category that can't be exported to European countries due to safety concerns.
They are driven at 70kmh max even on Japanese highways and used for town commute only.

Like this myvi 1.5 sure got ppl lenjan until 160kmh LOL.

I know myvi is Malaysia best selling car but in terms of safety it's bad
*
Well to handle safely, it does mean do not lenjan 160kmh la topkek.. The most basic thing is to get better wheels, so never skimp on that - my wheels cost a bomb but much better handling. Brakes to match better traction - and maybe can add anti roll, but i dun like physically attaching stuff so I leave it at that. Beyond 140 kph, Maibi needs careful handling. But well, with experience and custom parts -> allows for control up to 170kph - Tried it for like 10 secs once on my stress test tongue.gif. Stock beyond 140 kph is suicide. Cant brake well, cant maneuver well, and the frame aint gonna protect anything at that speed. I dunno what those 200kph potatoes were doing or how long they had to floor it to arrive there.

Its all about how well you know your car + handling + awareness. I'd happily smoke down BMWs everyday on straight roads - but sekali datang curve kuai2 terus la haha.. that power/weight ratio is insane - as long as u maintain discipline you can enjoy the power within very safe speeds. Maibi jgn lah lebuhraya rempit.... Naik bukit rempit...aaaaaaa baru machiam.

On side note - Since Maibi, the frame strength went up a notch from the con lan firm penyek kancil/kenari/kelisa era. Ive seen the 60kph head on and side impact pass (and I kena friggin pedal to metal aunty SUV on my ass once, luckily only moderate speed impact - but im impressed for tin milo level la).. Cukup makan la..

I got 1st Gen & 2nd Gen Myvi and my GF bought 3rd Gen

1st Gen 2007 - 200k mileage, facing the overheating issue. Changed engine mounting, overhauled the engine once due to water flowed into the engine.
2nd Gen 2011 - 181k mileage, oil seal problem, gear clutch burnt. Performance starts to deteriorate due to wear and tear.
3rd Gen 2018 - 10k mileage, so far so good, new car...

My advice is better to get yourself a new car due to safety issue and poor metal quality from 1st Gen Myvi. Save a few thousand and risk your life not worth la. The depreciation for Myvi is about MYR4k to 5k per year which is much cheaper compared to Vios or City.

I also planned to upgrade new car but no money yet. Hopefully, my 2nd Gen Myvi can last till 200k (my family using first Gen Myvi).

Better safety features is a good reason to change to new car.

10 years is a lot of advancement even with local brands.

Personally I feel that its useless to refurb a car unless you took good care of it from day1. Even so, it still has to be something worthy of refurb and myvi is definitely not in my list unless you really cant afford a better car. It all boils down to how much you hate your current car versus how stingy are you with money.

I would say the current myvi is light years better than the old myvi in terms of safety and nvh at the very least. However there is one thing you need to take notice with new myvi. Fuel pump is failing left and right for no known reason. Sister car just had one failure, less than a year. Replacement took ages as they didnt have the gasket that should be changed along with the fuel pump.

What makes you think upgrading from 10yo Myvi to latest Myvi will give you comfort? It is the same segment and same design after all. The NVH won't magically solve by getting new Myvi.

It's like upgrading from Saga BLM to latest Saga. It's same car, just slight improvement over the 10 year period.
Don't believe me? Try driving 10yo Honda City IDSI. You'll know the difference.

Lately I been thinking to buy a new car, but my parents advised me to use back the old car to save money. The problem is that old car everything just feel sucks, no power bad suspension, bad design, bad control, bad sound system, and old tint. The current car I'm using is an 10 years old 1st gen myvi. I'm not sure should I invest my money to refurbish the car, *hopefully the can get back to at least 7/10 condition. To fix all those problem I mentioned, I think probably need at least 5 to 10k I guess. So in my opinion, buying a new might just save the hassle no worry about other thing. What do you guys think?

Refurbish the old car or Buy a new car?

Will the old car become nice to drive and use if I refurbish it?

If you can afford the new one, supporting the 7-9year loan ... I don't see why not, unless your aim is to save money; and bruh, having the latest MYVI is in no way good on your pockets.

accounting the fact you don't have to service a loan after spending close to 5 figure refurbishing the old myvi, does not guarantee it'll run perfectly for another 10 more years to come.

I gave up my 21yo Wira due to numerous problems and spending most of my days off in the workshop, not to mention it's drinking petrol like a thirsty cow.

Best write down a list of the pros and cons of both cars and compare them yourself, it'll give you a clearer picture.

... but since you're opening a thread about this, we all know where you're leaning towards.

Its very clear cut answer. If you want to save the money for some other things like house, investments, loan repayments, then using some money to make the car feel new is definitely a no brainer.

If you are complaining about the car in general, then sell it. No amount of money you spend on this old car is going to change anything if it involves your heart & mindset. And it could go as far as being looked down by your peers on wealth outlook or your dissatisfaction that the car is not maintenance free. Nothing and no one can change that for you. No one has answers for that.

I have a same 10 year old Myvi 1.3 Ezi. It does not cost a lot to make the car feel new. Seriously. If you keep looking at premium replacement parts, then it feels not worth it. Like tires. A piece of Silvertsones are RM 99 a piece. You can pay top dollar Continental for RM250 a piece. I'm not gonna debate about all that safety 4 contact patch shit as an excuse. If you're dumb behind the wheel, you deserve to die.

lol, after so many advises and TS seems MIA already

well once my ex colleague told me this and i definitely agree with it
What car is the best to drive? a car that doesn't need to pay for its loan laugh.gif

jokes aside, other forummers already pointed out most key points already, i myself driving a 9 years old 1.5 lagi best myvi, I took good care of it, so i know its condition and i will say myvi is a car that worth to refurbish, PROVIDED you are the one that maintain it all the time.

Buying a new car of same segment? I would say no, i myself looking for an upgrade, but after calculating the repayment and what not, i decided to put it on hold. Mind you, the upgrades that i am looking at are areas like better stability on highway, better safety, better NVH, better power. So almost no car in Seg B can fulfill these conditions and i had to look at Seg C minimum.

edit : I also finally lowered my car after so long, changed to 15 inch new myvi rim for better stability, and i did feel excited about it and i think i will be able to stick with my car for another few more years after those upgrades.

Refurbish old car. It should give u another 5+ years. In the meantime save up some cash.
When the time comes, buy a new car with the money u saved. Put down a bigger down-payment to reduce interest payments.

Your old car can use as 2nd car.

The idea that new car has better safety features etc is just placebo effect and giving yourself excuse to buy new car.
It depends how u drive. If u drive recklessly, what car u drive also cannot save u. Ppl also die in Ferraris, BMWs, Volvos etc.

Upgrade from Myvi to another Myvi is a serious facepalm.
Reading alot from the replies really shows that Malaysian is all about that "debt" life.

Just set a budget of 3.5 to 5k and restore as much as possible, use it for 3.5 to 5 more years.

Alot can happen in 3 to 5 years, you might even get promoted which allows you to buy better car like Honda City for example.

Here my case with used car :
Car price : 24k
1. Fuel Injector ecu die : rm 700 (3 week after use fuu)
2. Abs brake pump fail : rm 7k + almost accident due to no brake.

Conclusion: If you have money go ahead new car is the way for reliability , poor fag like me just buy used car.

It's stupid when you change an old car to a new car of the same segment. Judging from what your parents say, I don't think your salary is high. Only buy a new car if you have spare money and isn't leeching on your parents. Don't buy if you are leeching off your parents for meals.

Like some forumers said, just equip proper knowledge and your car is good to go.

I had a myvi 2012. Almost 10 years now. Being quoted to change all absorbers , engine mounting, stabilizer bushes , rear bearings, stabilizer links. Absorber mounting, lower arms.. also all 4 tyres (dated 2018)

Car so far no major problem, only changed compressor set (ori denso + some air cond parts rm2k++) in 6th year.

Is it worth it? I didn’t know the pricing for above… I got another civic FC so this car after 2019 not really use much.. can say that a spare car with 20-30km per week usage now. Of course sometimes 100-150km as I purposely drive it to work.

I asked my mechanic about changing myvi fuel filter, he say quite hassle job, as it comes together with the fuel pump? Som more need to open up the fuel tank area,.... So lots if work.. Total cost like 400-500 iirc
Is that true?

Unlike proton wira, just remove and change easily
