I've just got tr-5 recently, haven't build it yet...
i must say i'm a little disappointed when i first saw the parts as there are quite a number of places to paint if you don't intend to use stickers, the beam saber also requires painting as its molded in 1 piece.

tr-5, i remember it now, Fasap say it a great kit, but all AOZ HGUC are preatty good, the gm quel is the best GM quel and non gundam ever in the HGUC line, also even better than some gundam. Any1 thinking of getting the HGUC Blue destiny 2? heard it preatty good.

It'll remain here, and wont be deleted. In fact, you still find the previous Gundam threads too if you look hard enough. tongue.gif

Unfortunately, I dont have the time and resources to keep track of all the useful links or tips in the threads. I have other threads to go through as well.. sweat.gif

But hey, if someone can do it and post them up here, I'll make sure they end up in the first post. smile.gif

how about consolidate the modeling tips and guides(i believe most of these info are quite universal) into 1 thread and then pin it? that way when new members come in with those questions we can just point them to it.

Ya, we should make a new forum with the title modelling techniques.
All those tutorial links and different techniques will be placed there.....
Then this mecha and gundam modelling will continue its function for us to chit-chat on gundam stuff.....

i think there's no need to create another thread for the modelling techniques..
maybe sumbody here could salvage the tips from the previous threads and find other related links or info and then ask jhcj (the mod) to paste it in the 1st post?

If one (or a few) of you can help me do this, it would be the best thing. I'm not too keen on the idea of making a new thread, since it's pretty hard to control the chit chat.

1. i would say the color, whereby ver KA uses red while OYW uses pinkish for the armor.
2. would be the amount of accesories that each unit comes with, between the 2, OYW comes with more weapons. However, ver KA comes with a core fighter
3. the amount of details, OYW has certainly got more details..

hope this helps.. correct me if i'm wrong though sweat.gif

how to tell you the cost since it's depend on the weight of your items? doh.gif

Just place your order
and then the websites will tell you how much it cost
or just email to that websites & ask what's the shipping fee with those stuff you want to buy

in that case, i think the best way is still for you to ask your friend about the rate over there. Its unlikely that we here knows the postage rate over there.

yes, but they don't really have much models to choose from. mostly MG kits. time machine on 7th floor has more choice and the price quite reasonable too

OYW excels in articulation and detail, but dropping the core flyer to make way for the internal frame =) ver. Ka is just another Katoki remodel, his own rendition and colour scheme of the RX-78 (flatter colours)

Edison is the best gundam seller in Malaysia, but u hv to wait for awhile for new stock to come, not that long, but the price will make u drop ur mouth. drool.gif btw, do any1 saw the MG Zaku II ver 2.0 at west Malaysia? how the price? just want to compare. The 100th MG, i got a feeling it may not be RX 78-2, to predictable, but maybe it is, still need to wait and see.

The 100th MG, i got a feeling it may not be RX 78-2, to predictable, but maybe it is, still need to wait and see.

japan to malaysia, see what courier your will be using, normally from japan will send to malaysia through EMS, then will arrive at KLIA, if you didnt assign any courier company here to help you colect your parcel, post malaysia will take over, then post malaysia will send you a card or will call you to inform you the amount need to pay (tax, shipping fees, service charge..... bla bla bla) after you pay, they will send to you, if you bad luck you are not at home when they send your parcel to you, they will just drop a card and ask you to go to the post laju centre to collect - Brickfields, KL - beside KL Sentral icon_rolleyes.gif

the 240 is an auction starting price, the auction will run for 9 days, so it might not be this cheap and the "buy it now" price is 270

just spray the whole inner frame gold..thats it..
or if you wanna make it nicer a bit..spray black first then only go for the gold.

there is different between normal and full burst..
the expose part are abit more shinnier while the one under the armor are the same gold as the normal version.

but, in short, if compared in terms of inner frame & the expose part which is the gold part, sf fbm looks more "gold"-ier & more "shine"-ier than the normal mg sf =)

how come the sf lightning edition doesn't have those expose parts? =/

That is the point of having the FB edition... shinier bling bling joints. And together with a RM10+ Action base, they charge you hell more, but then again, you get the normal poo joints too. Good for spare parts though, or maybe you can use it for scratch building.

meanwhile... the Japs are fast... Zaku I conversion kit for Zaku II ver2.0 frame !!

Hi, Im been toying around with gundam for quite sometime, but this time try to be more serious. I bought Strike Freedom MG and also Zeta Gundam MG. Bought the glossy spray and tried a bit on access plastic, it looks too wetty and smudgy and do we apply the marker lining before or after cause its smudge my lining with the spray.

I need some guidance please.

Damn, where I can get this one... love it. Someone tell me please.

wetty means you either spray it too close to your surface or spray it too much already..

and yes..topcoat do smudge your marker lining..if you spray the topcoat to much
try to spray a thin layer first..and wait till it fully dry..and spray another layer after that

gold spray from mr hobby is around RM26- RM30
gold paint around RM6
and gundam gold marker around RM9 - RM14

and yes..its possible to color ur SF with just a marker..lol..it just the surface wont be even and also you will be wasting alot of those marker..

the best way is to go get the spray can..dont care tamiya or mr hobby one..
one can can cover the whole SF inner frame already.

it's better to spray topcoat AFTER assembly.... make everything neat, fix it... then spray a thin layer... let it dry for at least 2 hours in room temperature and make sure the humidity in ur room is not high biggrin.gif

sandpaper for gundam? plenty of place selling it.... grade 1000 - 2000 depends on how u wanna sand it biggrin.gif

if u want to efficiently apply the thick marker, sand the surface with grade 1500 first...

topcoat are spray after your model are fully complete with decals and paint..means topcoat are at the final step of completing your gundams.

sandpaper can get from hardware store..it just a sandpaper..wont melt your plastic also..lol

those thick markers are oil base and are meant for coloring large area..
theres also a water base markers..but its hard to get localy..this one are perfect for lining also..and easly wipe off with tissue..

its more lighter and less yellowish..

and yes..you just shake and spray straight..not sure if you put into warm water first the can..the spray will be nicer or not..just like you do for topcoat can..

but whatever also..if you spray with whatever gold also..i will look nicer than the gold plastic color of the unpainted gold part of normal SF

wait =D, u mean make a black coating 1st, then spray it gold? =D does it really work?

if it does, does it apply to silver colour also? and the rest of the colours as well?
*
I always use the metallics as a secondary coat. So I tend to base coat using black, before spraying on the silver or gold, although when it comes to gold, I prefer to base coat using brown rather than black.

it's better to spray topcoat AFTER assembly.... make everything neat, fix it... then spray a thin layer... let it dry for at least 2 hours in room temperature and make sure the humidity in ur room is not high biggrin.gif

Hmm.. did some testing on one of my old MGs that I now use for experiments. Basically I base coated with brown, did some shading with black, and some highlighting with yellow, then only apply the gold. A rather thin coat of gold that is, mainly just for the metallic look to it. Not too bad, but wanna try again, 'cause the texture of the gold mix isnt that good.

Will post some pics after I've stripped the paint and respray again after that...

Normally its spray first, then do the lining. Unless your gold coating is extremely thin, so that it wont obscure the lines that you've already drawn. If you're using a spray can, then spray first then do lining, as u cannot control the amount of paint or spracy velocity with that, as compared to a dual action AB.

Well, I would recommend if I could smile.gif But to be honest, I can't really say. The only gold color that I've got with me is a very old bottle of Humbrol acrylic gold, which has got a pretty weak pigment. So I can't really recommend that anyways.

But since I got it, I make use of it anyways lar.. That's where it gets interesting, experimenting at how to get around the problems that u have with various different methods and so on.

Bought the glossy spray and tried a bit on access plastic, it looks too wetty and smudgy and do we apply the marker lining before or after cause its smudge my lining with the spray.

I need some guidance please.

it is recommended not to spray straight on the runner..it will leave you a cutting mark later.

spray black first or spray gold straight that one up to you..its better for you to test it somewhere first before actually doing it on ur SF.
spray straight gold also is no harm..but just dont do it on the runner..

Now, this is regular gold paint from tamiya with a coat of gloss coat. Personally, i think it is fine and am quite satisfied with it.

http://wonderexcellence.sub.jp/gallery/wsfa1/wsfa1.jpg
and the one that you c here, this is only speculation but i think this is titanium gold(or maybe gold leaf, i can't say..) So choose what colour you want for yr model. however, only the regular gold is found in spray paint form. the rest is in bottle form. it can b found in toy city in Time Square.

however, i prefer buying paint from tamiya at 1U, the one at the lower floor. a lot more selecton of paint and A LOT of equiptment you can't find anywhere else. like plaplates...just my 2 cents. icon_rolleyes.gif

ah ok.. thought u AB enamels also. most of what i've seen before on the linings bit tends to use enamels for the painting, then acrylics for the lining, as its easier to rub off acrylic off enamel without removing the enamel. First time i've heard of enamels on acrylic though.. does the lighter fluid strip acrylic?

Apparently those models shown are 1/144s, yet the title did mention something about the MG100. Babelfish translated the title into something which made no sense.

Hmm.. so far the best theoritical combination for lining is a combination of different types of paint.

Like for example, enamel as the base coat, with acrylic for the lining, where u can use something that can wipe off the acrylic, but leave the enamel intact.

That's why I was asking if those fluids can remove enamel or not...

Hmm.. tried experimenting with water based poster color on acrylic before, as you can wipe off the poster color with just color. Pretty good results, but dont work out too well in the end when I tried to brush (hand brush, as I dun have an AB yet at that time) on the vanish (acrylic) on top of it after that, as the water content will get the lining to start running.

Havent' tried with ABing the varnish on instead yet though, that should be something interesting to try.

^ the excalibur is the impulse's giant sword, you can see it in the upper right corner of Ah wang's pic.

Anyway... a glimpse of what Char's Zaku will look like... this is the normal Zaku painted in red.

You just gotta love this:

And here's something interesting... Deathscythe Hell Custom with Strike's frame. Not a very good mod, but interesting nonetheless.

If u compare d gold paint of Hyaku Shiki n Akatsuki, Akatsuki's is 'brighter' compared to d dull color of Hyaku Shiki's...D price is higher might b due to d backpacks (Hyaku's is way smaller) n maybe coz of d new type of runners s well as d different paints...dunno how to explain, d edge of d joints between d tree n d parts r hidden once assembled....it's not like d normal stuffs tat v used to get....check this for review

its due to da gold plating.
ur paying extra bcuz of da gold chrome.

da 1st released mg hyaku-shiki is gold plated. 4500yen
mg hyaku-shiki wif ballute sys is normal color. 4000yen (its cheaper even though u get extra parachute)

humbrol paints damn rare these days ler.. I used to use them a lot when they still had the 30ml bottles for their acrylics, but those stopped production already. now they only produce the miserable 12ml bottles, which i dun find to be as good as the older stuff.

GUYs. One question.

Will my model look as if it is "painted" if i spray the Topcoat (Flat-matt) onto my unpainted Gundam?

I just finish cleaning up my OYW rx78 with thinner ..parts by parts.. bcause last time Test Airbrush on it ..but fail.. After so many years..decide to complete it.. but don think wanna try AB on it again.

well, if u're to look at most of the nicely done up gunpla, u'll find that the surface is actually a matt surface, and not at all shiny. So, u should be looking for either a matt or flat top coat.

Furthermore, the bare plastic itself dun look very good as it is, and when u spray on a gloss coat onto that, it'll make it look even worse.

lol every now and then we get to talk about topcoat again....

Topcoats are great things to used on ur kit. And especially good if u dun want to paint ur kit. I just finished my OYW, and this time i manage to do the whole thing with just a little bit of paint (most of those are gundam markers for weathering, this is all thx to Flat topcoat.

Will post my pic later tonight.

I've been using the Humbrol Matt Varnish all this time. Pretty good, but need to be sprayed on. When brushed, it'll be slightly gloss. U can still find those at Miniature Hobby over at Section 14.

Mr Hobby from TM (BTS) also has got the Flat topcoat, although I prefer to use the Humbrol ones, as I tend to get the unwanted frosting effect at times.

there is no real process of applying topcoat..its a spray can..so you need to apply them like you spray a spray paint lo..so meaning no need any kind of tools for applying topcoat

but you can always put the topcoat can in hot or warm water few minutes before you spray them into you kits..its make the topcoat spray more smooth

this one totally depends..sometimes one can can only last for 1 or 2 MGs only..depends on how heavy you spray it. but maximum usually just till 2 MGs if you spray the whole kit..even till its weapons..

hg about 3 or 4 like that..

I saw catapult stand type in TM when I bought my topcoat. It was RM24, wanted to buy but spend so much on the zeta mg, markers and topcoat already. So was thinking to get end of this month maybe.

i think you mean the action base for that kind of price..and also there is no catapult sold separately one..

catapult that come with strike are totally different from action base

speaking of topcoats, anybody encountered the frosting effect before when using those spray on types? never really gotten to the bottom of what actually causes it.
*
just my 2 cent....frosting occur bcoz of the humidity in the air...i experienced first hand when i spray it on my nu inside my office..heheeheh...so try to get to dry open area...rainy days is an absolute no-no, even indoors...
anyhow, the frosting effect does look nice on my nu gundam, giving it a weathered effect.... whistling.gif

.Why would you wan to take the trouble to airbrush the gold akatsuki, when you paid higher price for the gold color in the 1st place.

akatsuki will be kindda silly if you go all the trouble trying to paint those gold parts and also the result maybe wont be as nice as the original one

Nip marks? I'm assuming cuts and scratches? If so, then it'll depends a lot on how serious it is. If its just something that can be sanded away, then probably yes, but keep in mind that I've not used those markers b4, so I got no idea how well the paint can flow off them. If its something more serious then puttying (or that magic Mr Surfacer solution) will be needed. Still possible I guess, but it'll be a larger area that needs to be covered up then.

No. Sometimes it can highlight it more and some flashes are on a spot that shouldn't have a panel line there anyway.

No markers shortcut if you want it perfectly flat with no marks.

With a size 000 brush of course smile.gif

I don't find those to be a problem, as I'm too used to painting those 25mm figurines from Warhammer 40K and Fantasy. Actually check out the painting guides for those, might help to do those pilots.

overall review from me:
the kit i got comes with boomerang unit.. (part resin) i messed up on the boomerang unit.. it's too heavy and fell.. broken into pieces cry.gif
the plastic mold sucks.. need lotsa putty and sanding. + glues..
the rubber links are weak.. parts are loose..
also.. need primer before the white..
if u have LOT of time/skill.. u can mess with it.. else don't even think bout it. it's no where close to gunplas..
if u want reviews: google "cody scoop" .. he's got one nicely made..

get gundam markers good enough already (GM01)..no need to recommend other brand already..

what else best if bandai itself already produce their own markers for their own model kits..lol

minerva is pretty bad actually when u see the actual stuff..lol
eternal more easy to paint..actually lesser part to paint from minerva..

lol..i use magnifier to color those micro MS

The fun of it is posing it, play it like a toy
some people enjoy playing Gundam instead of building it
since building a model kit takes time

the size of the kits..its not only for gundams actually..but also for pvc figurines..
1/100 is like the MS actual size is like around 100 piece of the model stack together vertically..

hmm did i put the sentences right?

Say.. the oil paints right? Enamel? or different?

How's it like to handle compared to acrylics, for hand brushing and for airbrushing? And for airbrushing, how difficult is it to clean the AB after?

ps. i'm not promoting business for grafitti. i have no relation to that shop.

hmm..i never try handbrush with oil before..but sometimes i do color mini figure and also gundam eyes with it..just a liltle thinner will do..most of the time i AB +oil base paint..and its kindda hard to clean your ab gun afterward..and if oil..its better to clean the gun inside out after every use..cause if it dry inside then ur gun is in deep shit already..lol

dunno why..but i dun really like water base..especially tamiya..not really nice when you with ab..lol

for enamel..i just use for lining only..with lighter fluid as a thinner..

Kinda tempted to try out oil paints. What sorts do u usually use, and how much do they cost?

Well, for one thing, I gotta say that Tamiya is indeed the crappiest of the acrylic paints smile.gif Pity though, I really miss the older Humbrol bottles, which r out of production now. I tend to use Citadel Acrylics from Gamesworkshop these days for acrylics. Pretty good, and the paint's rather thick too. Thin it down with water and alcohol, and the small bottle can last quite a while.

^ maybe it will come with the 100th MG tongue.gif

The pic only says that it is an 1/100, but that is probably the real 100th MG since the only 1/100 line running now is GS and GSD.

Having said that, the Turn A looks really good. Proportion wise it's much more beautiful than the normal lineart, and the amount of panel lines is stunning like the OYW RX78. However, there are still no signs of what it can do... I assume it can move like the Zaku ver2.0 or even better.

Well... not really a big shock though.

Although dun really like the 'misai' but have to look at reviews on the kit, mayb it is still worth a purchase...something out of the norm laugh.gif

Translation http://www.excite.co.jp/world/english/

----
Did you come back?。
First of all, from turn A Gundam of the MG100 work eyes.
The exhibited work was an old kit example of TEL Ho &HJ.
There is no way for me other than drawing and see and imagining that
it has pasted it at present after work because what finish becoming
is not understood because there was even no rabbit prototype
Information heard from the explanation member : for the time being.
1.As for the missile of the chest, detaching is possible.
2.The frame that became a stripped shellfish on the other side of the
leg synchronizes with the movement of the joint by using the
technology that has cultivated it before and Wakiwakiing moves.
3.The core fighter between groins is detachable.
4.The statue is attached to the loran besides the seated figure.
5.The cross of the chest is a white, blue compatibility.
6.Arms are the rifles, the shields, and hammers.
7.It is undecided whether the beard is a soft resin.
8.The cow is attached. w

Never watched Turn A before, but I got a feeling the cow's got something to with the storyline. Just like the little figurines of the 3 kids that comes with the MG ACGUY.

Seems that episode 8 of Turn A is titled "Laura's Cow"

Now that is beautiful... yes the mouche design might not be everyone's cup of tea, and in fact the MG Turn A doesn't have the moustache (unlike the anime)... It has a proper gundam mouth and the horned moustache are located at the side of the head, kinda like Wing Gundam.

Let's see what gimmicks this model can do.

Just found out from other forums that the Turn A was a mod from HobbyLink Japan... the one on the right with the typical moustache mouth is by Dengeki Hobby. Looking at the concept pics behind, it seems that the MG TurnA will have a horned mouth after all.

http://happy.ap.teacup.com/runchickens/491.html
Char's Gelgoog... no signs of articulations too, and it seems less impressive than the Zaku ver2.0 due to the obscuring of the inner frame by the bulky armour.

from mechatalk.com
QUOTE
What we know so far (will be updated as information comes):

    * The model is planned to be released 08/2007.
    * The model will be based on the anime version (so it's not a Ka design or anything).
    * The model will come with removable chest missiles (because of this, the chest will also open...as expected).
    * The frame on the back of the legs will have some sort of linked join movement.
    * The core fighter will be detachable.
    * It will come with standing and seated Loran figures.
    * The chest will be able to convert from the white cross (Syd Mead's original design) to the regular blue version.
    * Comes with a rifle, shield, Gundam hammer, and two beam sabers.
    * Comes with a cow figure, as seen in episode 8.
    * There was a contest that ran in Japan, where people could guess what the 100th Master Grade would be. Bandai will select 100 random people of those who guessed correctly, and they will receive a gold-plated version of the Turn A Gundam.

8000 yen for a simple kit without any super gimmicks? Only a rifle, shield, hammer, and beam sabres? Where is the moonlight butterfly?

Oh well... will give it a miss then. 8K yen... I could get two Char's Zakus with some spare change left !!

Here's a bigger pic of the Turn A shown in the expo:
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Too bad it's not the MG version, which is reportedly to have the same design as the anime version, ie pointy moustache without the mouth piece.

OK... just checked and it seems that the price is not confirmed... I thought it was 8K yen because of previous rumours from other forums.

My bad.

Preference is subjective. I agree that the Turn-A's design looks unorthodox, yet I feel that the design suits the atmosphere of the show. Turn-X looks even more badass than any other antagonist suit in AU.

In fact, I prefer the design of Turn-A to Strike Noir and Strike Freedom... those two look unbalanced to me.

Anyway... here's a HiZaku biggrin.gif

How much is 8k yen anyway?

Turn A is the 100th MG is kinda...overhyped. People are so crazy of the 100th MG and it turns out to be Turn A, which is not really a popular Gundam. I don't think it's sale will be very good

Alright guys and gals.... not exactly about gundam but I think this is the best thread to post and I need your advice on this.

Yesterday I bought a Bandai Master Grade Patlabor Ingram 3. When I got home i just thought of looking through the manual and the parts, I found out that one of the parts, J1 (9) which should be the clear green part to form the camera/eye of the Ingram is not included.
I compared the parts list which is normally featured on the 2nd or 3rd page of the manual. There seem to be a part of the J1 frame totally missing, which contains the J1(9) part. All parts frames are still sealed in plastic so its not a case of someone removing the part from the frame. I checked the other frames as well but there is no sign of extension to their frames or extra parts.

Anyone encountered this before? I checked with the shop's boss, he said he encountered this problem before and his supplier said it is suppose to be that way: the part is not included. Can anyone verify this?

If no clear green part included, then why is it shown in the part listing and also shown in the assembly of the head in the manual as well? Please advise. Thanks in advance. Don't want my Ingram to turn out having an empty eye socket.

Can't blame 1/144 Alteisan sucks since it's one of the Kotobukiya's early stage injection kit
Koto doesn't has experiences to produce injection kit before that

The 1/144 Weibritter is way better than the Alteisen, I own it so i know!!!

The SD version of SRW kits are really nice! Just like the game! But i dun see any in the market.

Anyway i am going for the SRW OG PS2 game that is going to release on the end of July!!!

I've 1/100 Huckebein Mk. II too & also not yet assembled
so can't tell you the quality of it

Those SD SRW models are magazine exclusive kits
if you want to get it then you've to buy it at the magazine's website
Dengeki Hobby did mention bout it but I've forgot
each of them is not cheap
I remember it's bout 6k yen if I'm not mistaken

Those SD SRW kits are expensive because they don't come out in mass production
so the kit itself need to sell expensive to cover the cost
I saw the info in the Dengeki Hobby (Taiwan ver.)
I need to go home & check which issue I've seen the website

I can't find any thread which talk bout all SD models
I only found SD BB Gundam thread

This thread is about "Gundam and Mecha modelling"
so we talk bout the SD Super Robot War models in here since there's no "SD Mecha Modelling" thread

what does a lauching pad and a lousy backpack compared to a gunship-like backpack with 2 swords, a gatling gun shield and a freaking huge chrome sword?

iwsp is way better than aile strike anyday. more gimmicks.

Runners.. mostly throw away.. keep a few as spare parts.
Boxes.. i will cut the 4 corners and fold them up. So in the space of 3cm height, I can keep 3 boxes already.

who know where to get decal paper?

I want to print and do my own design, or maybe follow some logo's to put on the gundams or cars.

Use the sharp hobby blade and slowly cut it until it's as flat as possible. unsure.gif

After that, sandpaper it smooth. But if you sandpaper it, it will have visible scratches that makes you wanna paint it tongue.gif .

deja vu..cant help but to mention this word..

anyway..you only sand if you wanna paint..no paint then no sand..
use those craft knife to shave the cutting area..you dont pull those part out from the runner with bare hand..u use cutter for it..after cutter then craft knife..

can get this craft knife at art shop such as venus art at petaling street..cheap cheap.

so people also use nail clipper..i dunno about this cause i never try use it before..craft knife all the way for me
