Guys, need some advice. Would like to check when actually is a wheel balancing and alignment needed. My car is just 1 year old and service centre asking me to do balancing and alignment. Or is it that while testing the car service guy hit a kerb or something?

I do wheel alignment and balancing every oil change - since I drive through the crap roads of KL everyday.

There's no "rule" on when to do it, but doing it regularly would be beneficial to your tyre wear and even FC.

It is recommended to perform wheel balancing and alignment every 10,000km.

Balancing only do when you start feeling vibrations otherwise no need.
Wheel alignment only do when you feel the car is not steering straight anymore otherwise need.
FYI I personally can go 20k, 30k, or even more km without doing any of them!

My front axle tyres about 50000 km and going, one time balancing when new and no wheel alignment.
Rear axle tyres about 75000 km and going , one time balancing when new .
Tyre rotations, hmm .... what is that ??

So is it that the premium brands such as bmw, Merc, volvo service centre will do it every 10k or 20k and charge us for it if not covered under their free service package?

yes necessary.
keeps the tyres wearing evenly and the steering straight and true.
so it saves you money and keeps you safe.
it should be done at every car service or when you notice the steering is not true.
i do mine at every 10k km.
it only costs rm60 for wheels service balance alignment and tyre rotation. it is an easy job that the SC can do.

odd question.
if you can afford a premium brand like conti, why even ask if you have to pay? you just pay.

My take, do balancing if you always drive highway speed, and can feel the car vibrating due to tyre rotation imbalance. Plus tyre swap front <-> back.
Alignment, I never do (even in SC) unless the car starts to move left/right while cruising, or start to notice uneven tyre wear (which maybe too late).
But I always keep the tyre pressure in check regularly.

No problem with my car or tyre wear. Never requested to do even once alignment for 8+ years, as the 3-4 sets of tyres I changed all wear out evenly. Unless the tyre shop do it as a package when replacing 4x donut each time.

My style is do not touch alignment, or let those tyre shop screw you with adjustable camber bolt or nonsense, unless necessary. Else if under warranty, just send back to SC and ask them for alignment.

Yes, absolutely not on one car but two cars for decade(s) .
Besides, I know exactly almost all the ill effects of unbalanced tyres , or out-of-alignment steering system, or absence of tyre rotations .

How do you know if you've never experienced them?

run ur hand over your tyre.. if its not smooth ur alignment lari d.. unbalance wheel will cause vibration during certain speed. I do it every year but not with SC. find reputable tyre shop to do it for you. No chamber screw change is required. Alignment compesation will help without touching chamber. Unless u got urself an accident
