if u are fishing by the beach it all depends on what u fish u wanna target and the style of your fishing ..
if u wanna cast super far away then a surf rod is required .. 12ft and above ..
if just play nearby only anything will do laaa ... all depends on what u target and whats there in the water nearby ..

as for lines .. it can range from rm4 for 100m of line to over rm100 for few hundred meters of lines .. u will have to be more specific on your question about what fish and type of fishing u are doing b4 we can recommend anything ..

you wanna fish just using the line?
basically you'll need:
1. A manual spool to store the line
2. 10-20lbs line, depending what you're targetting..
3. Lead sinkers
4. Hooks, again size depends on what you're targetting...
5. If you can see the fish from the surface, then you'll need a float tied to a short line.
6. Swivels

FYI, a cheap set of rod + reel can cost below RM30...
so if I were you, I'd rather get this than using just the line to fish..

If u really cannot afford to get a rod and reel setup, i'm sure most of the sifus here will be happy to borrow u a setup.... as long as you share the secret spot for the Fishies!!
