QUOTE(john123x @ Dec 1 2019, 02:45 PM) i guess, when you pay peanuts, you get monkey web developers.... this is shocking, you shouda viral it. first time, i see an app asking permission to erase all data and factory reset... QUOTE(jbcoder @ Dec 1 2019, 02:51 PM) Is this Android or IOS version? I don't think Android version has such permissions. Not the usual permission approval you see when opening an app. Yes this is from android. This is registered through device administration API in Android SDK. Though it doesn't directly ask a user to accept/deny this permission on app level, but the question is, why would they need this in the first place? QUOTE(internaldisputes @ Dec 1 2019, 03:37 PM) Imagine your phone got stolen. You report it to Celcom and request them to reset your phone so that the thief won't be able access your sensitive data. You what? Why would you report to Celcom (a non-trustable company) to reset your data? There's Find My Device built-in app for this purpose which is more trustable even if it's Google but reporting to Celcom doesn't make sense in this. It's a telco app fwiw. QUOTE(pandah @ Dec 1 2019, 04:25 PM) edit, found it under security option it was off, another app is outlook device policy also off. on is find my device and prey, now that i see this, is prey redundant as already have find my device? inb4 cheap phone no need to worry. > is prey redundant as already have find my device? Yes but I'm not saying Google is trusted, but I don't think it's safe to let companies/people to read your data. I'd personally just use Find My Device as a single app to nuke my device as I've done so in the past when my phone got stolen. Cheap or no cheap makes no difference. It's your personal data that is valuable to those companies, you should be aware of taking care of it.

QUOTE(imin @ Dec 1 2019, 06:38 PM) They don't pay peanuts mind you. Last I know the company that developed their mobile app is a big Indian company (t*t* consult*****). I know because few years ago one of celcom's guy asked me to redevelop their app using native because they were pissed off already with this Indian company (fyi current app is hybrid which usually used only by cheapo development company).. But the problem is the backend too is developed by the same company and they kind of lock out access from others Not only that, even our banking app CIMB and Maybank are not using native code for their apps. I'm forced to use it as there's no other alternatives. I am weirdly trusting web version even on mobile more than using their app because it looks cheap as hell.
